Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. Shower mixing valves are usually located behind the shower handles. Accessing the mixing valve is difficult for a DIYer, so it’s best to call a pro if you think this could be the issue. A plumbing repair expert has the right tools and knowledge to easily access the valve, diagnose the issue, and recommend repairs if needed.

Your toilet handle might not come back up if the nut is loose or the bolt threads are stripped. Try to tighten the mounting nut and wrap plumber’s tape around the handle bolt to fix stripped threads. It’s possible the handle was improperly installed. If that’s the case, you can use the instructions above to correct the handle’s position.
