"Hired Pohlman to evaluate two natural gas tank water heaters in our home, one of which was unoperational. They suggested combi-boiler for our home in lieu of two tank water heaters. They did a great job and we are very pleased. Customer service is top notch, and I highly recommend Pohlman Plumbing."

"Mariano (spelled phonetically) contacted me right away. He diagnosed my issue over the phone and quoted a price. We scheduled a time for him to come out same day, arrived before appointment time, and removed/installed new sump pump (we purchased the sump pump before his arrival). He completed the work in the same day in a timely fashion and we paid as quoted. Thank you."

"The plumber was scheduled to come on 4/23 between 1:00 and 3:00p.m. At 1:00p.m. I got a call saying that the plumber would not be able to come until 4/24 as he was delayed at a previous call. He arrived promptly at 9:00a.m. the next morning. One toilet would not flush properly. He repaired that toilet. The other toilet ran on occasion. He replaced the fill valve. On occasion it still runs."

"Keon and his team were on top of it from the beginning. I was greeted well over the phone, and felt as if Keon was invested in my problem before being hired for the job. They were on time, very professionally dressed, and I felt their estimate was reasonable. As they explained the estimate, they were able to explain the why's of the estimate and give a rough estimate of the time it will take to complete the job. The quality of their work was outstanding. The care and craftsmanship that went into the install of the new supply lines can be easily observed. Supply lines were straight and parallel to one-another. They tested everything with me prior to and after cleanup, and made sure I was happy with everything before closing out the job. Definitive Plumbing and Heating takes great pride in their workmanship and relationship with their customers. They resolved all my issues, cleaned up behind themselves, and left my wife and I satisfied. At the writing of this review (about a month later) we have had no issues with the work and have received compliments regarding the layout design of the new supply lines. I would definitely use Definitive again for any plumbing needs, and I highly recommend them."

"We were having problems with our septic. 1 st we had the tank pumped. Continued to have problems with backing up. Zack and his helper came out and snaked the clean out pipe. Worked for a couple weeks backed up again. Bryan and his helper came out and snaked the pipe again and ran the camera in the pipe which showed tree roots clogging up the pipe. He then ran a root cutting tool in the pipe. As Bryan was doing all of this he explained everything he was doing and why. I was very impressed with his knowledge. He was excellent. He advised we need a crew to dig up the pipe to the tank. Jay and Cody came out and dug up the pipe and inlet access and found clog mixed with tree roots. They cleaned everything up and all is working. Thank all of you guys for your help. I would recommend all them !"

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Schedule annual inspections, test water pressure, and protect the pump from freezing temperatures.

Drain fields often include three to five trenches that are 18 to 24 inches deep. The pipes connecting the drain field to the septic tank will be placed between 12 and 18 inches deep, and the field as a whole will be about 100 feet long.

Septic drain lines (or leach lines) are typically buried between 18 and 36 inches underground, and should be at least 6 inches below the surface. These pipes are perforated and surrounded by filtering materials like sand or gravel. Burying the lines at this depth helps minimize odors and allows bacteria and other biological processes in the soil to effectively treat the wastewater. Burying lines too close to the surface can cause issues unless the soil is very compact and stable.

There are a lot of issues that can cause a septic tank to collapse. Those include failing to regularly pump or service it every three to five years, placing too much weight atop the system—by parking your car on top of it or because of a heavy snow buildup for instance—or because of structural damage done by overgrown tree roots.

A septic smell may be harmful because sewer gas is dangerous depending on the exposure amount and length of time. Sewer gas is made up of multiple gases, including hydrogen sulfide, methane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide. Some of these gases, like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, are toxic to humans and can be fatal in high concentrations or long exposures.
