"Mr. George (owner of R. George’s Paving in Gaithersburg, MD) just finished replacing my asphalt driveway. He and his men did a nice job, and the new driveway looks great. I highly recommend that anyone considering replacing or resurfacing their driveway give R. George’s Paving a call."

Customers say: True professional

"We have a slight hill at the end of our gravel driveway, which washed out pretty badly during the recent hurricane rains. I was looking for someone to repair this, and get us another year out of the gravel driveway before we have it paved. I called three different companies, and Bill Cooper was the one who gave me the best explanation of what needed to be done. He wasn't trying to push me towards an expensive new driveway, but rather gave me options to do it right. In the end, we covered the loose gravel with a milling base, which looks better and sets me up to pave the driveway in a year or so, when it has appropriately settled. I think Bill really knows his stuff, and I'm very happy with the way things turned out."

"Everything happened as scheduled and was well done. It was confusing in the beginning being asked whether my driveway needed repaving or just sealing, which would dictate which person my request would be referred to. I hope I guessed right. It would be nice if an expert could come, make that determination/recommendation, and not put it on the homeowner."

"Unexpected rain unfortunately ruined the initial pour of the new driveway, but before I even realized that this happened XtraCare was tearing up the first pour, and re-poured the new driveway which came out perfect. The retaining wall also had some unexpected complications for getting a good level 1st row of retaining wall blocks, but the guys at XtraCare worked hard at tearing out the old wall & concrete footing to ensure a solid new wall went up well and wouldn't lean over time. It's been almost 2 months since the work has been performed, and we've since had a couple heavy rains which allowed me to watch the runoff run away from the house, which was the intention! Thanks XtraCare!"

"We needed to expand our driveway and then reseal our current. Joe and his crew did a great job with joining the new with existing. Was easy to contact and we got a quote right away. Highly recommend using this company."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

As a new homeowner in Potomac, your first step should be a professional pavement inspection to assess safety and drainage, which is critical due to the area's clay soil. Prioritize immediate safety hazards like repairing potholes deeper than two inches or sealing cracks wider than a quarter-inch before winter arrives. Addressing these urgent issues first helps prevent more extensive and costly damage down the road.

Helpful?

For maintaining asphalt, keep a leaf blower and stiff-bristled broom for debris common under heavy tree canopies. A pressure washer and squeegee help manage standing water and organic stains. For small repairs, have cold-pour crack filler on hand. During winter, use an asphalt-safe ice melt instead of rock salt to prevent damage from the freeze-thaw cycles common in MD.

Helpful?

In Potomac, extensive alligator cracking covering over 30% of the surface, multiple potholes, or significant drainage issues signal the need for full asphalt paving work. The area's clay soil can cause settlement that requires replacement. However, isolated cracks under a quarter-inch or a single pothole can often be addressed with simpler repairs like sealcoating or patching, extending the life of your current surface.

Helpful?

For a smooth asphalt paving project in Potomac, start by checking your HOA's aesthetic guidelines and securing any necessary county permits. Schedule the work during Maryland's optimal seasons, from April to June or September to October, to avoid weather delays. Finally, coordinate a utility marking service by calling 811 at least three days before any digging begins to ensure safety and efficiency on the job.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Potomac often balance aesthetics with function, deciding between decorative borders that enhance curb appeal and wider, more practical driveways. Another trade-off involves timing: scheduling work during peak season ensures ideal weather, while off-season work risks delays. You'll also weigh material quality against your budget, as a thicker base preparation significantly extends your pavement's lifespan and prevents future issues.
