"Unexpected rain unfortunately ruined the initial pour of the new driveway, but before I even realized that this happened XtraCare was tearing up the first pour, and re-poured the new driveway which came out perfect. The retaining wall also had some unexpected complications for getting a good level 1st row of retaining wall blocks, but the guys at XtraCare worked hard at tearing out the old wall & concrete footing to ensure a solid new wall went up well and wouldn't lean over time. It's been almost 2 months since the work has been performed, and we've since had a couple heavy rains which allowed me to watch the runoff run away from the house, which was the intention! Thanks XtraCare!"

"We got a handful of quotes for repairing our driveway, and because of how steep it is, everyone wanted an arm and a leg to even touch it. Everyone except for Daniel and American Custom. They jumped right in and redid our driveway and added some concrete steps in half the time they said they would need. And it completely changed the curb appeal of the house. It all looks amazing and any concrete work we get done while we live in Stafford will be done by American Custom Hardscapes!"

"E Stanley paving did a great job. Their representative Joe was friendly and professional and able to answer all our questions. They started the job within a few days of the initial visit. It entailed a lot more work than I thought. They had to bust up three sections of the driveway in order to make it level and get a proper base and had to raise a drain in the driveway. Due to many issues with the county grinder in our front yard that the county has had to excavate our driveway had sunk down 3 inches. They created a smooth surface level to the sidewalk and did a nice job on the edges. We couldn't be more thrilled."

"Concreto Plus was responsive in coming by to provide an estimate for the job. They described the process in detail, and gave me a lower price than 2 other estimates. The work was delayed by weather, but was quickly rescheduled. They completely removed the original concrete driveway, installed a bed of stone, and a steel framework. The following day, they installed, graded (so water runs off to the street), and broom textured the driveway. They were respectful of the plants around the driveway. I'm very happy with the final product."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When hiring an asphalt contractor in Washington, prioritize local experience with the city’s unique soil and drainage issues. Confirm they carry proper insurance and bonding, and ask for references from recent Washington projects. Reliable paving companies should provide clear warranties, use high-quality materials, and demonstrate familiarity with the city’s permitting and access requirements for residential and commercial work.

Helpful?

After completing an asphalt paving project in Washington, allow the surface to cure properly by avoiding heavy traffic for at least 24 to 48 hours. An initial inspection should confirm proper drainage and surface quality. Within three to six months, consider the first sealcoating application to protect the new asphalt. Verifying the drainage system works correctly before the first heavy rainfall is also a key step.

Helpful?

In Washington, top materials for asphalt paving include hot mix asphalt for resilience against frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and stone matrix asphalt for high-traffic driveways or parking areas. Crushed stone aggregate is essential for proper drainage, especially in neighborhoods with clay-heavy soils. Recycled asphalt pavement is also popular in Washington for its sustainability and cost-effectiveness, making it a smart choice for local paving projects.

Helpful?

To protect your investment in Washington, DC, asphalt paving requires proactive maintenance. Crack sealing is essential to combat damage from the area's freeze-thaw cycles, while sealcoating every few years protects against UV rays and moisture. Regular cleaning prevents drainage issues from debris buildup, and prompt pothole repair after harsh winters will extend the life of your surface. Proper drainage maintenance is also critical.

Helpful?

In Washington, you'll find several types of contractors for asphalt paving. Residential specialists focus on driveways and are familiar with neighborhood constraints. Commercial contractors handle large-scale projects like parking lots. You can also find specialty service providers who focus exclusively on maintenance tasks like sealcoating and crack filling, or who offer emergency repair services for urgent fixes after storm damage.
