"We were convinced to have our roof done after the roofing expert inspected our roof and sat us down for his presentation. We appreciated the time spent to explain the project management plan from the delivery of materials to the post-installation inspection. Everyone we met was very professional and the clean up crew did a great job."

Chidi, who was the representative in charge with our work, exceeded all my expectations. He was professional, kind, and excellent at communicating. The roofing team was efficient and completed all the roof in a well-detailed and efficient manner. I would highly recommend using Exteriormax and their services!"

"After 1 hour and 15 minutes the handyman said the lock i bought was no good and I needed to buy a new one. I sent someone out but I don;t think he needed so long to figure out the first deadbolt I got from Home Depot was something he could not work with. He did not move the latch plates but instead tighten the screw on the doors so yes it worked fine for a day and not is almost impossible to lock again. I just finished repairing the work on the front storm door closer so yes the door closed all the way but he made so the opening was very small so it was hard to bring packages in the house. He did get most of the mold off the roof but I was disappointed that he did not fix my sliding door and that I had to spend time on the front door closer. Maybe he was just not a very skilled worker but since I guess you don't know who you will get when you hire them I don;t think I would use them again"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.

You can negotiate roofing payment terms with a contractor, but if you’re working with a reliable, trustworthy roofing contractor, the quote they gave you is probably fair. It’s often not worth haggling over the cost of the job unless you feel it is particularly unfair. If you do, get quotes from other roofing companies to compare prices.

Tar and gravel roofs last an average of 30 years, which is longer than the average lifespan of many other flat roofs. The gravel on top of the waterproof membrane helps protect the roof from UV damage and physical damage, so if you keep your roof drains clear and carry out annual roof inspections to catch issues early, you could see up to 40 years of useful life from your roof.

No, a chimney crown is not the same as a chimney cap. A chimney crown is a flat cement area on top of a masonry chimney. It starts where the masonry part of the chimney ends at the very top and domes upward toward the flue opening. A chimney cap sits on top of the crown over the flue. It is usually made of metal and allows smoke to escape without letting in rainwater.

There are two main types of roofing shingles: 3-tab and architectural. Architectural shingles cost more than 3-tab but offer a more unique look and can last longer. However, 3-tab shingles are lightweight and affordable, and many people use them for both patching roofs and installing new roofs. Ultimately, the best type for you depends on your budget and your home’s aesthetic.
