"I reached out to Liam to to possibly hire him to remodel two bathrooms for me. He came over to look at them and sent me an estimate. There were a few items we had discussed that were wrong on the estimate, and there were also a few new (minor) items we hadn’t discussed I wanted to add into scope, so I set up a follow up phone call with Liam. While on the phone with Liam, I had asked if he was licensed as a Construction Supervisor, which I read on Mass.gov was a requirement for my project scope. Liam said he was and when I asked for him to provide his license # when he sends me the revised estimate, he agreed to do so. (For context behind my request, Mass.gov had only showed his HIC license but not a CS license, and the phone rep I had spoken with also confirmed he was not licensed a CS. But I wanted to give Liam the benefit of the doubt…perhaps the license was not listed under his name, but maybe a partner name). The morning after our phone convo, I received this text from Liam: “Good morning, After speaking with you yesterday morning I've decided I do not want to do the project for you, I wish you all the best and finding another contractor. But I'm clearly not interested.” Huh? What the heck is this about? Since Liam didn’t give me the reason why he “clearly wasn’t interested” and when I responded to ask, I found he had blocked me from contacting him. I strongly caution anyone considering Liam to hire. This experience leaves me to believe he is not an honest, trustworthy, or legally qualified professional. He most surely does not have the CS license he claimed he has and was forced to bail on the project since he knew he couldn’t back up that claim with a license #. Liam evidently had no respect for me as a person. If he did he would have given me the common courtesy of the reason for his sudden loss of interest (or leave me the ability to respond to him to ask). I feel I dodged a bullet by doing some basic due diligence before hiring him (as I have done for every contractor I have hired for my projects in my 20+ years of owning a a home.) I strongly suggest that you think twice before contacting Liam for work to be done. Is this how YOU want to be treated? Is this someone you want to entrust your time and hard earned money to?"

Andrey is a wonderful listener and communicator. He responded to us promptly, managed the project efficiently and transparently, and kept us updated on the work and timeline. Big praises also to Mariano and Neto, who did the carpentry work, glass shower installation, among other tasks. They went above and beyond to deliver high-quality work, arriving on site with bright smiles and hard-working attitudes. "Our 1920’s home is 3,100 square feet and required significant renovations to meet our modern lifestyle. My wife and I are in the design business [*** Link removed ***] so we’re very particular about the design and quality of the work to be preformed in our home. I have also renovated several homes, I’m pretty handy myself and have a fair amount of contracting knowledge. So I know what what to expect, how the work should be performed and the costs associated with it. We interviewed six highly rated contractors in a highly vetted and competitive bid process. Jeff set himself apart with his reviews on a number of highly reputable sites (including this one), home owner references (of which there are many) and team (plumbers, electricians, tilers, painters, finishing carpenters, plasterers, masons, suppliers, etc.). His team of subs all have been working together for over 20 years and take tremendous pride in their work. They’ll show you pictures of their work like the projects are their children. Best of all they all have worked together on so many projects that they complete each other’s sentences. So nothing gets lost in translation between the customer, contractor and sub. Jeff also has his own crew who are incredibly dedicated, skilled, hardworking (i.e. removed a two story brick chimney in 3 days) and polished. One notable member of his team is Elvis (and yes he's a rock star too). He is the go to person for any challenges faced during a project. He's highly knowledgable and skilled. And his easy going, "we can do that" attitude with a smile is always welcomed. Having spent months with him, my kids consider him their long lost uncle. The renovation included a complete gut of the kitchen, 2.5 baths and four bedrooms. We have completely updated the electrical, plumbing, windows, HVAC, furnace and hot water system. Added French Doors and skylights. We removed an obsolete two story brick furnace chimney which recaptured significant square footage. We have reconfigured and optimized most of the rooms and removed several load bearing walls to create an open floor plan. We refaced our fireplace in honed granite and replaced the fire brick. We're in the midst of finishing half our basement which will include a wood burning fireplace adding 610 square feet of living space. We also plan on renovating the attic into a living space with heating/cooling, new windows and skylights as part of phase two. Thus far there is no challenge we have thrown at Jeff that he hasn’t been able to address. He’s a consummate professional, honest, reasonable and the quality of work is outstanding. Further, the communication is excellent. He is always available (Saturday and Sunday if need be) and provides nearly daily updates with the progress of our project. I know I was thankful for the feedback I received from homeowners when making my contractor decision. I’m happy to do the same for someone else."

The cost to finish a basement is $18,400 for the average homeowner. However, this cost could be as little as $2,800 or as much as $34,500, depending on the basement size and the materials needed. If your basement is already outfitted with electrical and plumbing, expect the cost to fall on the lower end.
For example, the drywall cost for this project averages around $1,750, but other features, like hiring a plumber, cost between $45 and $200 per hour.
The cost to remodel a basement is between $12,100 and $33,400 for the average homeowner. The price you pay can be as little as $3,500 or as much as $50,200, depending on the size and condition of your basement and the type of remodel you're doing.
If you're doing a simple project like adding a home office to your basement, you can expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $3,000. However, if you're adding a bathroom, which is an extensive project, you can expect to pay between $6,600 to $16,500.
Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The average cost to enclose a patio to create a sunroom is around $5,000, and prices generally range from $3,000 up to $10,000. The price you pay will depend on the state of your patio and whether it needs repairs or additional structural support, the quality of the materials you choose, the size of your patio, and whether you plan to run utilities into and finish the sunroom. The price for a fully finished patio enclosure could run up to around $20,000, while you might pay just $2,500 for a screened-in porch.
In almost all cases, you will need permits if you plan on building a sunroom over your patio, but regulations and requirements will depend on your municipality. Permits to enclose your patio will usually cost between $300 and $1,000. Since navigating local building codes and zoning requirements is challenging—and the consequences of not following them can be extremely expensive—we strongly recommend hiring a sunroom builder to complete the work and pull the permits for you.
