"Knox Sewer & Septic is truly a family owned business. No sub contractors. We found this company through word of mouth. We worked with Jim (owner), brothers Jeff & Darrell & son Ethan. Honest, good people, which is hard to find these days. When we called Jim Knox, he was there the next day to check out our failed septic system. Our system needed a perimeter drain & Presby sand mound septic system due to our saturated water table. We now have a new septic system working efficiently & no water standing in our back yard. They did a great job, very trustworthy. Jim & his crew work with the customer & answers any questions you might have. Thank you for your expertise & we learned a lot. We would recommend Knox Sewer & Septic A +. They go the extra mile."

"We were having low water pressure so we called J & C well and drilling to come and check it out. They came out on a Saturday and gave us a quote. He came back out on Monday and replaced the well pump.  Our well is hard to get to so it was not an easy job. We also had a leak in our tank so we had him replace it. He did a great job! Very professional and kind! If we  need a plumber we would call him again!

"I think their coverage is a little spotty. You have to look at the document very carefully. It seems random to me. I reported a problem once and once I used the word "septic" they wouldn't cover it. Another time I didn't say it and then they covered it. You have to be really careful about how you phrase things."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Bladder and diaphragm well pressure tanks are usually pre-charged at the factory. Even so, it’s important to check the air pressure in the tank using a tire pressure gauge on the relief valve. The instruction manual usually calls for 28 psi. Use a hand pump to add more air or release some air from the tank to reach the desired number. Check the pressure periodically to see if you need to add more air to the tank.

Yes. Amongst the four most common types of septic tanks—plastic, fiberglass, concrete, and steel—those made of concrete are the most expensive. This is the case for a few reasons, including the fact that they’re very heavy, so pros have to use specialized equipment to install them. However, they’re also incredibly durable, making the price worth it if it’s in your budget.

Septic tank locations are sometimes public record, although it depends on local laws and the property age. Older properties may not have the septic tank information on public record. To check, you can talk to local permitting agencies, such as your local health department, the local environmental department, or the county clerk.

If your leach field becomes clogged or saturated, it can cause several problems with your home's septic system. The clog can cause sewage to back up into your home, leading to unpleasant odors and mess. A backed-up septic system can be a health hazard, particularly if the sewage starts to leach into the ground surrounding the leach field.

There are several ways to fix a saturated drain field, including cleaning out your septic tank, adding enzymes and additives to your drain system, and installing a larger septic system.

A septic tank with a 1,500-gallon capacity is good for larger homes with up to 6 or 7 bedrooms. The average home can go with a smaller tank, about 1,000 gallons, which supports a home size of up to 2,500 square feet, or a home with about three bedrooms.
