"Rogers did an amazing job on my concrete floor in my barn. Took out the old concrete to make a flat, smooth surface. He also did my front horseshoe for a new driveway! Amazing work. I had questions and he was there to explain everything to me so I could understand. Job was left clean and tidy after they were finished. I will hire them again."

"Asphalt USA came out and gave me a free estimate. We agreed on a more than fair price. They came out with in the week and started the Job. When they started they noticed my brother in law was visiting. They offered to put in wheelchair ramp at no extra charge. The whole crew thanked him for his service. It really made his day. The owner pulled me aside and said that he would like to offer us a 10% military discount off the price we already agreed apon. They are good people with great values. They did such a great job that 2 of my neighbors had their driveways paved by them with in a few short weeks later."

"I got 2 estimates to replace an uneven narrow L shaped residential sidewalk with a 60 inch wide curved sidewalk and to install a 35 inch aggregate border on each side of my driveway. Brice Napier at WarrenCo seemed more knowledgeable and eager to implement my special requests, so I went with them. The contract mirrored our verbal agreement exactly, Brice was always on it, and the work was flawless. (I have had many concrete projects done in my life.) I asked them to do it in colder weather, and they applied curing blankets to accommodate me."

"They completed the work that I wanted to be done. My only problem was one of the guys working for Mr. Decker when he put the shade in the thing for my electricity said there was a hairline fracture in the shade and it broke, so I had to replace that. They could be more careful installing certain things, they said it was defective anyways."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

In most cases, you don’t need a permit to repave your driveway, although some exceptions exist. If you’re widening your driveway and plan on widening the apron as well, you’ll usually need a permit from the Department of Transportation in your area. This permit costs between $50 and $300 in most cases. Most municipalities will also require a certified and insured contractor do the work relating to the apron and curb cut. You can contact your building department or ask your paving company if you need a permit. Your driveway professional will usually pull the permit for you.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.
