"We are new homeowners and had a hole in our septic tank made of concrete block, which was sending wastewater into the foundation/basement of the home. It was my first time using Angie's List, and I would recommend Illinois Sewer and Drain to anyone. Joe and his team of experts solved our issue immediately at an affordable price. They even went above and beyond to install a sump pump in our basement to help with the rain water. Quality work!!"

"The awesomeness started within a couple hours of purchasing my deal. Matt reached out to clarify a misprint in the deal, and assure I still wanted to go through with the deal. He was able to to schedule me at a time that worked with my busy schedule.
Darryl and Mike arrived right on time, first thing in the morning. I had originally purchased a hot water tank replacement deal. During the old tank removal, it was discovered that my ejector pump was not working. The crew was equipped to replace that at a reasonable price as well. They worked quick and professionally and had all the work completed in a timely manner. They made sure to have tarps available to protect my floors when moving the tanks in and out. The crew had such pleasant personalities, and I could tell they enjoyed what they were doing.
I highly recommend M&E Plumbing for any work you may need!!

"
I had an issue with the sewer line and catch basin.  I had 4 companies come out to look at my problem.  The first company had a very extreme plan that I thought was a little over kill and over priced.  The other three all had similar solutions with slightly varying prices.  I chose McDonagh based on price and they were also referred from a neighbor.  Patrick came out the first time and gave my two quotes, the first based on fixing the current issue and a second quote to fix this problem and adding extra flood measures.  After a few thoughts, I had more questions and ideas so Patrick came out again to discuss.  A few days later I called a third time with another change, Patrick responded again.  We finalized what was going to be done and the price, the next day he and Tara were digging up my basement. Josh showed up a little later and really got the digging going.   All three were nice the whole time they were here.  They were informative in what they were doing and flexible to the surprises that arose.  The project went smoothly and looks good.  Josh cleaned up nicely and worked hard the whole time.  All and all they removed all lines going to the catch basin, closing it off and filling it in.  Cleaned and camera scoped the main to make sure everything was good.  Rerouted three drains to a pit to close off any direct backing up of the main sewer line. While they were here I asked if they could reconnect a copper pipe I had to cut and they did that for me real quick without a charge."

"Brent B. showed up on time and after reviewing my existing Sump Pump situation, I decided to move ahead with the work. They were able to complete it the same day! I had researched previously and had an idea of what I wanted. Brent along with another technician completed the work, answered my questions, cleaned up, etc. Brent and Dave did a great job and will definitely use them for future jobs.

"My name's Kelly, I live in Roselle and when i called Mr.  Rooter my toilet wasn't working (wouldn't flush, water kept running).  The tech they sent out was Manny and he was such a pleasure to deal with!  He inspected the toilet and since it was a older push button toilet he said they'd have to order the pieces and actually take the toilet to repair.   Manny explained all my options and pricing,
I rent so I kept waiting to hear from my landlord (no call back) so I sent him away and told him I'd call back with my decision, before even calling Mr. Rooter I had waited a day to hear from my landlord and NO luck, so I didn't want to wait any longer.  I made the decision myself!  He wasn't even gone 30 minutes I called him back to replace it.  He showed right back up, we chose a toilet- I went with the most basic white toilet and he went out and bought it.  Installation went fast, when he was done he went thru the whole house and did a free inspection of all plumbing.  I was very happy with my service call and my son was happy too cause Manny so nicely gave him 4 magnets to keep!

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Septic tank odors can happen because of a few different issues with your septic system, such as a full tank, clogged drains, or blocked venting systems. Not only is a smelly septic tank pretty unpleasant, but it can also pose a potential hazard to yourself and your home. Toxic fumes could be hanging around, or untreated wastewater could be harming the environment.

It only takes a few days for a septic tank to fill with water after a pro has pumped it. This is completely normal, and the water is a vital part of your septic system’s wastewater treatment process. The water that fills your tank days after pumping is not the same as the tank being filled with waste. You shouldn’t have to pump your septic system more than once every three to five years unless you have a tank that’s too small for your home’s water output or there’s a problem with your leach field.

Modern septic tanks have two lids: one that covers the inlet where wastewater flows into the tank and one that covers the outlet where the treated water flows out to the drain field. However, older septic tanks installed before 1975 may have only one lid. Because septic tanks last 20 to 40 years, if yours only has one lid, it may be time for a replacement.

The ideal depth of a septic drain field is 18 to 36 inches below the surface. The trenches must be deep enough to allow proper wastewater distribution and filtration while remaining shallow enough for oxygen to reach the soil, promoting bacterial activity that helps break down contaminants. In areas with high groundwater or poor drainage, shallower systems like mound drain fields may be required.

Your septic tank naturally contains the good bacteria it needs, so you typically don't have to add more as the system produces them on its own. However, if you wish to replenish the bacteria, you can use natural methods. For example, you can add three rotten tomatoes to your garbage disposal or flush 1/4 ounce of active yeast down the toilet every three months. While store-bought septic enzymes and chemicals are available, many additives are unnecessary and may even harm your system. The most effective way to maintain a healthy bacterial balance is to avoid using chemical drain cleaners, which can kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank.
