I had used Patrick in the past for new pipes replacement and we were very pleased with his service.  We decided to use him again for a new water heater that we needed to purchase and install so I sent him a text message to see if he could come over to give me a quote.  He replied quickly and said he could stop by the next day around noon, but asked that I send him a text a couple hours beforehand just as a reminder.  The next day came and right at 10am I sent the reminder text.  I didn't get a reply, but I assumed Patrick was on a job and that I'd see him at noon.  I left work early and came to the house by 11:30.  By 12:15, he had still not arrived so I sent him another text message.  Again no response.
That night, I sent an email to him as well, through his company's website.  I thought perhaps he'd lost his phone and that he'd for sure get the email.  No response from the email either.
Pretty terrible way to do business considering we were probably going to hire him once we got the quote.

Had sewer issues for years and finnaly found a plumber who could find the problem, show me on a sewer camera, and resolve the problem at a fair price and quickley. Also did plumbing for new bathroom in basement!

I called to set up a consultative appointment. After talking through the issue, he said he would stop by in ten minutes as my house is close to their office. Waited for over an hour. No call, no show.

Our Assoc. wanted to have 2 backup batteries installed on sump pumps. I called Mcdonagh about the missed apt and they said they could give me an estimate via email. I emailed them twice but never received an estimate.

Provider was prompt, professional and friendly.  Arrived at the agreed upon time for a free estimate and performed work same-day after we agreed to the price.  He stuck to the price despite taking longer than expected and more work than usual due to worn-rusted pipes in my home.  Cleaned-up after himself and left no sign that work was done other than our new, working toilets.  We are very pleased and reccomend McDonagh & Sons Plumbing & Sewer Inc.

I was given a window between 1pm and 2pm for an estimate.  The guy showed up almost an hour late.  After determining what was leaking he went to home depot to get the replacement part.  I still had not been given an estimate.
He gets back and replaces the part maybe 45mins at home depot and 15 mins at my house, then has no idea what to charge me.  Here is where I realize I'm in trouble.  He waits about an hour to talk to his boss and see what the charge would be, so much for getting an estimate before hand.  He finally gets ahold of the guy then tells me its $185.  I asked him if that included the 10% angies list discount listed on angies list and he shrugs and says "uh, I think so", right.
So basically I feel like a dope for not demanding an estimate before he booked it out to the store, but still that's a little ridiculous.  I won't be using McDonah again.
The work however was fine, he left it in better condition then it was.

Great.  They were there first thing in the morning, explained everything they did and answered all of our questions.  Diagnosed the cause of the problem which another plumber could not do.  Have had no problems since.

PROS: Were quick to respond that they could do the job on last minute notice.
Owner fairly responsive via phone and text.
Reasonable pricing
CONS: As with many projects, went a week over schedule.
Dumpster and cars left in my parking lot when all the spots were already accounted for. Made it nearly an unusable space.(In company's defense, they were having a ton of trouble with the dumpster company). Even after they were told this nothing changed.
Did not provide accurate updates of the work and what the end result would be.

I made an appointment a couple days ago for between 10-11am today.  A little after 11am I called because no one had shown up and the guy said they had a lot of emergency appointments because of all the rain the past couple days.  He said he would find out what was going on with my appointment and call me back in about 5-10 min.  It's now been 2 hours and I still have not heard from anyone.
I understand if you have other appointments come up that are more of an emergency, but a phone call to let me know or to reschedule would have been nice.  And then for them to not call me back at all after I contacted them, that's why they are receiving an F from me.

Excellent prompt affordable service.
I was contacted directly by Patrick, the owner, over the holiday weekend.
He quickly scheduled an appointment for Tuesday after the long weekend. Once he assessed the work needed, he got me a great price.
By Wednesday morning, he and his team had installed a new garbage disposal and new toilet. All the work was done quickly and while I was at work. They got everything done properly and left no mess behind. It was a seamless process and I am very satisfied with the results. I will be using them again for any plumbing issues.
I highly recommend this service.

I called based on an Angie's List review.  They showed up promptly and most importantly the problem was fixed.  We have toilets that flush to the rear (not the ground) and they can be very tricky.  The toilet was leaking, but these guys fixed it.  Pricing was fair for the job.

We had scheduled an estimate during our lunch breaks. However, the estimator requested to move the time foward by a hour. We agreed and left work earlier. The estimator arrived an hour late. After a quick review of the work, replacing two toilets, he told us that he would be sending a quote later that same night. One day passed. Two days passed when he called us back. However, it was not to provide a quote. Rather, it was to ask us who we were. After reminding him, he then told us that he would be sending us the quote later that night. One day passed. Two days passed... Ten days passed. Finally, we called him simply to complain about the service. He then promised us a quote by the day's end. One day has passed. Now two days have passed.
Even if he did provide a quote, we would not use his services.
If anyone has a reliable plumber for the Downtown area, please let us know.

I emailed the company on Easter Sunday and they promptly responded the same day with a phone call to schedule an estimate. The following Tuesday workers arrived to do the estimate, in fact they were able to come earlier than plan after calling to see if it was OK. I approved the estimate, and they said they had time to do the job right away. After a quick trip to get parts, the work began. The guys showed me exactly what they were going to do, and what I would need to do in terms of some minor roof repair when they were finished. All 3 men were very professional and straight forward and I felt I paid a fair price for the job.

Mr McDonagh sent his worker the day after we agreed on a price to begin the project. He repiped the shower and removed a drum trap that was no longer in use and put in the base of the shower.
Since I had to remove tile, the walls were not smooth. I had to replace one wall and cover holes in the other wall. It took me 10 days to accomplish this task. I called to have someone come out and finish the job. There was some misunderstanding about when the work was to be finished but we straightened it out and on 3/27/13 the work was completed. He did an excellent job and there was no need for me to clean up because he left the bathroom the way he found it.

There was a guy here for about 10 days re-piping my house.  They managed to not rip through my floors or ceilings to get the job done, I was impressed.  Patrick, the owner, stopped by a few times also to make sure the work was being completed.  I highly recommend them.

I walked into my basement on Saturday afternoon to discover a pool of water on the floor.  Looking at the walls I traced it back to right above the window that sits below my kitchen sink.  I popped the paneling off the top of the window box and immediately saw that the galvanized pipe leading from the sink drain to the stack had corroded and a hole had formed.  Frantic because it was 4pm on a Saturday and I knew I couldn't use my kitchen sink or dishwasher until I got this fixed (no easy task with two toddlers to keep up with), I jumped onto Angie's List looking for a plumber with Saturday hours and a good rating.
I called McDonagh and was told they could have someone at my place in an hour.  Todd showed up at 5:30 and immediately got to work.  Patrick (the owner) showed up with his son Nolan shortly thereafter to take a look and get Todd some parts off of his truck.  We gave Nolan a piece of the pizza my kids were having for dinner as an apology for interrupting his Saturday too.  Patrick came back with a price estimate that seemed fair to me for emergency short-notice service on a Saturday night.  Todd replaced the entire section of pipe from the sink drain to the stack and was finished and out the door by 7:30, leaving us with a fully functional kitchen again.
Huge thanks to Patrick and Todd (and Nolan) who really saved the day for us.  These guys are absolute professionals and really saved us from some major inconvenience.  Would absolutely recommend and use them again.

Within an hour of contacting him, Patrick came to my condo unit for FREE to evaluate the sump pump system.  Another plumber had previously given a rather incomprehensible quote based on his own past work on the building. Patrick was able to explain the other contractor's quote and clearly explain what type of system was in each unit (a point that had not previously been made completely clear).
Within 15 minutes of evaluating the actual sump pump and the other contractor's quote, Patrick was able to provide an apples to apples quote, a quote for an upgraded maintenance free system (an upgrade the condo board is considering), and a quote for a long term money saving option that would create a continuity of sump pumps across the building and a easy of care and continued maintenance at a more reasonable price.
If it was completely up to me, I wouldn't bother hassling with trying to get two other quotes to appease the condo board policy. I would hire McDonagh & Sons.

I spoke to Patrick at approximately 8:40am and explained to him that I'd gotten his number from Angie's List and that my water heater had stopped working.  I explained that there were no leaks and we discussed that something may be wrong with the pilot light.  Patrick said someone would be by my condo between 11-12.  When nobody had arrived by 12:30pm, I called again and was told that someone would be on the way shortly.  When nobody had arrived by 1:30pm, I tried calling again, but nobody answered and the voicemail was full.  I called the office number listed for the company and nobody answered that number either.  The voicemail for the office number was also full.  I sent an email and received no response.  After finally getting in touch with Patrick again at approximately 2:40pm (I'll note that he did not return the call from my phone number, and I that I only got a return call from him at a different phone number), he said that they were tied up with another job and that he could get someone over between 4 and 5pm.  I said that would be fine.  Nobody ever showed up.  I am writing this review an evening later, and I still haven't gotten a callback.
After reading almost nothing but straight-A reviews, I am shocked at how terrible my experience was with this company.  I had called another plumber before calling Patrick, and this other plumber explained that they couldn't do the work same day, but they could put me on a wait list if someone else cancelled.  When someone on this other plumber's schedule actually did cancel, I refused their service because I had already booked Patrick.  My interaction with this other plumber was the opposite of my experience with Patrick; where the other plumber was polite and responsive, Patrick was dismissive.  Though Patrick never once called to inform me that he was running late, when I did reach him, he continued to tell me that someone would show up.  I had stayed home from work to get the service done, but instead of valuing my time and explaining that, for whatever reason, he couldn't get someone over to look at my water heater, Patrick simply kept me on a string.  Not only was my day a total waste, but I passed up another plumber who was willing to do the work because Patrick had agreed to do it instead!  This company's lack of professionalism and common courtesy was nothing short of offensive.
I do not leave this negative review lightly.  While new to Angie's list, I am not the type to trash the cable company online because the installation tech was 10 minutes late.  However, this company's customer service was abysmal and I felt manipulated.  Obviously this is only one user's experience, but I struggle to think of a worse experience that I've had from a service provider.  They were unprofessional and, in a word, rude.  Beware.
