"After the big spring rains, water began seeping into my basement at several locations. I could see tree roots encroaching on the sump pump and assumed that drain tile was clogged resulting in water pressure strong enough to seep through the joint between the foundation wall and the floor. Tim explained that tree roots should be killed off with copper sulfate and that seepage was likely the result of cracks in the foundation wall that are covered up by the drywall. He said a single leak can appear in multiple locations as it travels along the 2x4's anchored to the floor. We talked about how I could go about finding cracks. "Mike was able to install a cartridge for a Roman tub filler working only from above since the tub was surrounded by stone tiles. When I tried initially the lock nut underneath was moving but Mike understood exactly how the system worked and avoided a very unpleasant situation which would have involved popping out some of the tiles and maybe some other structural damage.
