"Great contractor. The crews and foremen were excellent and cared about the job and were respectful of my property. Much personal attention to detail was given to fulfill the layout design that Modern created from our wants and wishes. They are a turnkey full service contractor not using any subcontractors for hardscape or landscape services. I have recommended them to others who are now using them as well. I will use them again for other landscape projects."

"I cannot say enough good things about Art of the Earth!!!! Kody, Cam, Josh, and Jose all worked on our massive and complicated project. They showed up each day, for several months, with smiles, positive attitudes, and worked incredibly hard. They maneuvered around other contractors, weird weather, and multiple other challenges. In addition, Kody and his crew worked thoughtfully through each phase and went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied. From moving and placing 1,000 lbs. boulders, to designing and laying an intricate sandstone patio- every portion of this project showed the breadth of skill and passion the owner, Kody, possesses. We can honestly say that we could not of had a more positive experience and are completely in awe of the end result!! We give Art of the Earth 10 out of 10, 5 stars, and two thumbs up!"

"Rock solid was hired to redo landscaping and install sump and French drains in order to correct a serious water problem caused by poor grade planning and design. After interviewing three contractors, Gary and his team hired because they looked at the project and offered a professional solution. This company was the only contractor that got it right and knew exactly what was required. They also had the right equipment and tools to do the job correctly. Once the problem was fixed, they did an exceptional job of getting the grade right and installing trees, edging and large rocks over new sod. The entire project was done professionally at a reasonable price. We have already had many positive feedback and we have committed to additional work in the coming months. Rock Solid Landscaping met all the criteria of this retired reclamation engineer. Very nice job Gary."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. For maintenance, masonry will need repointing or replacing as damage or land shifting occurs, whereas stucco will need patching or refinishing as it tends to crack over time along with other types of wear-and-tear.

Chimney mortar typically lasts 20 to 30 years, depending on its quality, local weather conditions, and maintenance. Over time, exposure to moisture, freezing, and thawing cycles can cause mortar to deteriorate, leading to cracks and gaps. Regular inspections and timely repairs, such as repointing or tuckpointing, can extend the lifespan of chimney mortar by ensuring the structure's integrity.

Yes, you can paint stone on the exterior of a house. It’s important to properly prep the stone by cleaning off dirt and debris. You’ll want to apply at least two coats of paint to get the most even and complete coverage. Any pinholes or missed spots, however small, can allow moisture to get into the masonry and potentially cause the paint to blister and peel from the stone.

Professionally done brick repointing can last 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. However, the exact lifespan depends on several factors, including the quality of the mortar, the skill of the mason, and exposure to weather. If you live in an area with harsh weather or frequent freeze-thaw cycles, you may need to repoint more often. Repointing that is done as a DIY project may only last 10 to 15 years. It's time to repoint when you notice signs of mortar failure, such as crumbling or missing mortar, holes, or vines growing between the bricks. Regular inspections can help you catch these issues early.

Costs depend on material type, labor, chimney requirements, and structural reinforcements.
