"I hired Vital Electric to assess and fix multiple electrical issues in my new home. Lidwing quickly resolved a reversed polarity outlet, corrected a double-fed garage circuit, and addressed a panel safety concern—all within a two-hour window. Professional, efficient, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend."

"Dominic was great. He arrived right on time and started tracing a hard-to-find short. For over four hours he checked socket after socket, switch after switch, ultimately crawling through spaces I didn't know existed. He found the problem, a rodent-chewed wire that was a likely fire hazard. He corrected the problem with new junction boxes and updated the outdoor sockets. He demonstrated a level of knowledge, professionalism and determination that puts him at the top of my list of go-to electricians. I'll be asking him back soon to take care of some outdoor lights that need upgrading. I hope he won't be bored!"

"On June 10, I had a company to install security equipment in my home. In doing so, the installer drilled through a wire and I did not have electricity in several outlets due to the damage. Since the company did not have an electrician on staff and was unable to refer me to anyone, I turned to Angie’s List for help in finding someone to correct the problem. I called Hands on Electric on June 11 and spoke to the owner, Kevin Williams. I explained my problem to Mr. Williams and he gave me a window of time in which he would be able to come out. Not only was he able to come out the same day that I called, but Mr. Williams was able to come much earlier than expected. Once he arrived he was able to trouble shoot and diagnose the problem. Mr. Williams was very, very friendly, professional and honest. He was able to answer my husband’s questions and explained what he was doing as he made the repairs. My husband was very happy about that and we were both impressed by the years of experience Mr. Williams had for his age. I have been looking for an electrician for a while now and have decided that I will be using Hands on Electric for all of my future projects. I was very pleased with the work that was done by Mr. Williams and will recommend him to my friends and family when they need of electrical services."

"These guys are really good and very reasonable pricing. They had to run 49 foot cable between my garage and electric panel through the ceiling all they have to do is a 2 4x4 inch cuts in dry wall. It was a clean job."

"Mr. Electric Bethesda was great to work with - responsive, quick, helpful, and friendly. They ran electrical outlets into my backyard to power a fountain and string lights. Everything works and looks great, and they completed the job in one day. Have hired them for subsequent work and received the same great service."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Washington, be wary of electrical professionals who provide vague estimates, avoid discussing local code compliance, or request unusually high upfront payments. Watch for a lack of transparency about permit requirements or experience with historic homes. If a contractor pressures you to make quick decisions, lacks a verifiable local address, or ignores visible code violations during their visit, consider these strong warning signs.

Helpful?

In Washington, prioritize electrical pros with proven experience in older homes and knowledge of historic preservation guidelines. Seek clear, written estimates and a transparent approach to permitting. It’s important they understand local logistics, such as parking restrictions and noise ordinances, and can coordinate with condo or co-op boards if needed. Choosing professionals who offer emergency services and have strong local references is also wise.

Helpful?

In Washington, combining electrical projects with kitchen or bathroom remodels, or HVAC upgrades, is often efficient. Coordinating these improvements minimizes repeated wall openings, streamlines permit applications, and allows for joint inspections. For rowhouses and condos, scheduling electrical rough-ins before insulation or drywall helps avoid extra disruptions and ensures compliance with HOA or building management requirements, saving time and reducing future headaches.

Helpful?

In Washington, unexpected costs can include permit and inspection fees, remediation for asbestos or lead in older properties, and extra labor for navigating tight rowhouse spaces. Additional expenses may arise from mandatory code upgrades, specialized materials required in historic districts, or parking permits for service vehicles. Planning for these potential issues helps keep your electrical project on schedule and avoids last-minute surprises.

Helpful?

In Washington, homeowners often overlook required permits, especially when updating wiring in older homes with knob-and-tube or aluminum systems. Failing to address moisture-related issues unique to the area, skipping essential code upgrades like AFCI protection, and underestimating the complexity of historic properties are also common. Planning ahead and consulting experienced electrical professionals can help avoid safety hazards and costly project delays.
