"I couldn't have asked for a better experience. They were hired to replace the main electrical panel/breakers at my elderly mother's home. Roni, the electrician, was a wonderful communicator, and was very knowledgeable and thorough in completing the job and in putting her at ease. The price was very reasonable. I will be using Nasr Electric in my own home, as well as recommending them to all my friends and family in the DMV area."

"There was quite a lot of work to be done. They came out they put a new panel in, they run new wires, they sorted out some minor electrics in the attic, they got some connections and so that they system was therefore complete for the contracting firm to come in and do their part. We chose them because we've used them before. We've done some minor electrical work with them when we had first arrived."

"Kevin Williams was prompt and professional. He accommodated a last minute appointment for me when the electrician I normally use was unavailable. He called ahead to let me know when he would arrive, and even offered to arrive earlier if I wanted. He was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. He was also very reasonably priced. I am glad I found him and plan to use his services again in the future."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Arlington, DIY electrical work on small projects may save money, but risks include code violations, safety hazards, and failed inspections. The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code requires licensed professionals for most major electrical projects. Hiring a qualified electrician ensures compliance, liability coverage, and peace of mind. For complex jobs or anything involving your electrical panel, always consult a local expert.

Helpful?

Electrical systems in Arlington should be maintained by testing GFCI outlets and smoke detectors quarterly, and inspecting panels for tripped breakers or corrosion annually. Before winter, check for exposed wiring and seal exterior outlets against moisture. During summer, monitor circuit loads from HVAC and appliances. The Arlington Department of Community Planning, Housing & Development recommends regular inspections to ensure ongoing code compliance and home safety.

Helpful?

In Arlington, most electrical projects—such as installing new circuits, upgrading service panels, or adding major appliances—require an electrical permit from the Arlington Department of Community Planning, Housing & Development. Projects must comply with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the National Electrical Code. Minor repairs like replacing switches are usually exempt, but always confirm requirements to avoid fines or failed inspections.

Helpful?

In Arlington, common mistakes include overloading circuits, skipping required electrical permits, and using improper wire sizes for appliances. Many homeowners neglect to install GFCI outlets in kitchens and bathrooms, risking safety violations. Failing to follow the National Electrical Code or Arlington's local regulations can result in failed inspections and costly repairs. Always verify code requirements and consult local authorities before starting any electrical project.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Arlington, copper wiring is preferred for safety and compliance with the National Electrical Code. Use THHN or THWN wire for indoor conduit applications and UF-B cable for outdoor or underground use. For general circuits, #14 AWG is standard, while kitchens or heavy appliances require #12 AWG. Choose electrical boxes and breakers that meet Arlington's code requirements for lasting, safe installations.
