"Jose and team member washed my townhome windows inside & outside including the blinds. I never opened my blinds or curtains in the past. Now my blinds are opened because the windows are crystal clear. I am no longer looking out of dirty windows and I am incredibly happy about the job that JG Windows did for me!"

"Everything went well. Ferney did some painting, fixed railings, fixed door handles, re-did a closet, installed screen windows and made some repairs to our bathroom. He is a serious craftsman and takes great pride in his work. I plan on using him again."

"This wasn’t the first time I used Vazquez & Son. In 2014, they expanded my closet and built custom doors for it. Luis and his team are alway nice, attentive to detail, and leave the work area clean. So, when my bathroom ceiling was torn up to repair a leak I called him immediately to repair and get my bathroom back in order. In fact I had them repaint the whole thing and it looks great. I’m writing this review a year later because once again I have an emergency repair need (broken bay window) and once again Vazquez & Son are to the rescue! I had been traveling out of the country and a guest using my place broke the window. From the airport, on a Sunday morning, I texted Luis a picture of the window and he responded within 10 mins. It is great to have a reliable responsive handyman/construction service provider when you need one. Not all my projects are big money, but it’s my home (1 bedroom apartment) and having things done right matters to me. Vazquez & Sons treats my projects like professionals and never make me feel like small potatoes. I’m a loyal customer, and plan to be, as long as Vazquez & Son is in business."

"Our technician was on time and sealed our storm door to prevent water from leaking in. He also fixed the lock and the screen door on our sliding glass doors making them finally functional again and taught us how to grease the sliding door so it runs smoother. Excellent work and completed in a timely fashion."

"I hired DC Handyman to fix some closet doors and to do some touch-up painting and Yonatan did a great job! I've tried other handyman services in the area with little success in finding quality service and a fair price. I received both from DC Handyman, quality work at a fair price. I would definitely recommend them."

Doors questions, answered by experts

In Washington, homeowners should pay close attention to neighborhood-specific guidelines, especially in historic areas where exterior door changes often require advance approval. The city’s humid summers and chilly winters mean choosing materials that resist swelling and warping is crucial. Security is a top concern in urban neighborhoods, so reinforced frames and upgraded locks are wise. Also, check for HOA restrictions and ensure compliance with fire safety and energy efficiency standards.

Helpful?

In Washington, installing a standard interior door typically takes a few hours, while exterior door replacement may require a full day. Custom or historic door projects can extend over several days, especially if design approvals are needed. Permit processing and material delivery can add extra time, particularly during busy spring and summer months. Plan ahead for longer timelines if your home is in a historic district or requires specialty materials.

Helpful?

In Washington, be cautious of door service quotes that lack clear details about labor, materials, or timelines. Watch for contractors who don’t mention necessary permits, especially for homes in historic districts. If a professional seems unfamiliar with local building codes or avoids providing references from Washington-area projects, that’s a warning sign. Always confirm warranty coverage and ensure recommended materials are suitable for the city’s climate.

Helpful?

Washington homes built before 1980 or those in historic neighborhoods often have original doors that may not meet today’s insulation or security needs. If you notice persistent drafts near entry points, doors that stick after rain, or visible daylight around frames, it’s time to consider door repair or replacement. Outdated hardware or doors that don’t close securely are also strong indicators your home could benefit from updated door installation.

Helpful?

Washington’s climate means doors need regular attention—inspect weatherstripping every spring and check for swelling or sticking after humid spells. Lubricate hinges and locks before winter to prevent freezing. For homes in historic neighborhoods, use approved finishes and schedule professional inspections every few years. Regularly clean door surfaces to remove urban grime, and touch up paint or sealant to protect against moisture and temperature changes.
