"Adcocks trapping does great work; The price is a bit steep I think but I had no problem paying it for the quality of the work that was done. I had Adcocks trapping come out almost 2 years ago now to seal my house against mice; I live in a home from 1963 and there were plenty of spots, some that I were not even aware of, for mice to get in. Adcock sent out an engineer I would have to say, as he went around my entire property documenting what needed to be sealed and presented that report to me. I then had the option to pay or not, no pressure, which I thought was excellent. With the amount of information they gave me, I could have tried to do it myself which I really appreciated. I decided to pay for the work and they came right out and sealed up the house real good. Ever since then, I have had ZERO mice. They gave me a 5 year warranty on the work they did. If I ever have any more pest issues, they will be the first ones I call."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Washington’s humid summers and mild winters mean pests such as ants, cockroaches, and rodents remain active throughout the year. Heavy rainfall can increase mosquito breeding and attract moisture-loving pests to basements or crawl spaces. Because of these conditions, year-round pest control, moisture management, and seasonal adjustments—like increased monitoring during summer—are essential for effective prevention and long-term protection.

Helpful?

Your Washington home may need pest control if you notice rodent droppings in basements, ant trails along windowsills, or termite mud tubes near foundations. Homes built before 1950, especially those with original wood framing or located near Rock Creek Park, are at higher risk. Shared walls in row houses and ground-level apartments can also make pest entry easier, increasing the need for professional intervention.

Helpful?

Washington homeowners should consider factors like proximity to Metro stations, local restaurants, and ongoing construction, all of which can attract or displace pests. In historic districts, certain exclusion methods may be limited, so consult with your contractor about approved techniques. For multi-unit buildings, coordinated pest management is crucial, and open communication with neighbors or building management can help prevent recurring infestations.

Helpful?

In Washington, pest control contractors include generalists for broad pest issues, specialists for termites, bed bugs, or rodents, and wildlife removal experts. Some focus on historic homes, using methods that protect original features, while others serve multi-unit buildings with coordinated treatments. Many offer eco-friendly solutions or integrated pest management, which is especially valuable for neighborhoods with dense housing or green spaces.

Helpful?

Effective pest control in Washington involves quarterly inspections, especially in older or historic homes. Seasonal tasks include sealing gaps around utility lines in spring, checking for standing water after summer storms, and inspecting attics or crawl spaces before winter. Regularly clearing gutters and monitoring for signs of termites or rodents helps address issues early and supports long-term pest prevention in the city’s varied housing stock.
