He quickly determined that our inlet filter was too dense (it was a Merv 11 and should have been a Merv 8) and that that was probably causing the heater to go off an on every 5-10 minutes. He then tested and confirmed his hypothesis. He also performed a CO test to make sure there wasn't anything more serious going on. Finally, he gave us a good idea of replacement options, which we should probably do before the next Winter, but not necessarily right away. All in all, this is exactly the kind of assessment we needed, and it cost orders of magnitude less than what was estimated by the first service company we had come out.
