"On a home built in 1957 Approved Contractor Inc (ACI) installed new construction windows and sliding glass doors, stripped the house of old siding, removed old plywood sheathing and old insulation, and then insulated and stuccoed the house. What was important was not only finding a reputable construction company, but also one that would coordinate the total project. The added benefits were quality work and high-end material, at a competitive price. Of note, was the stucco method (4 layers-coats - scratch, brown, finish and texture). The texture coat is an elastomeric paint (color of my choosing) that is water repellent, reflective and provides an even color on the walls - with a lifetime warranty. Other stucco contractors stop on the finish coat, with the color in stucco. In addition ACI uses its own subcontractors. ACI was professional, flexible, and did really great work. ACI was a superb choice."

"We recently remodeled our kitchen with Ben and Bentov Builders, and the experience was great from start to finish. Communication was clear and consistent ? Ben was always available, kept us updated, and made sure everything stayed on track with no surprises. What really stood out was the commitment to quality. He paid attention to the small details, and it shows in the final result. The crew was professional, respectful, and kept the space clean, which made the process much easier while living at home. The kitchen turned out exactly how we wanted ? even better. If you?re looking for a reliable contractor who delivers and actually communicates, I highly recommend Bentov Builders. ? "We chose Arrow Building after getting bids from other companies to repair a roof leak and replace a lot of siding that had dry rot on our two car , story detached garage . One of the reasons we chose Arrow is that they could do the roofing, siding and painting. We met with Terry Sr and he was very professional and sent his son Terry ll to set up the dates. I would have had to use two to three contrators with the other bids. Arrows price was right in line with the others. The roofing crew came out did a tourch down roof with new facia and drip line. The crew worked in 107degree weather and did a great job. They were very friendly and let its know what they were doing. Terry ll was there to get them started. The siding crew came and tore out the old siding and wrapped the garage in plastic. Again Terryll was there to start the job site The HardieBoard siding was installed. Other companies wanted to just replace the 35year old cedar siding dry rot boards only which was probably half the siding. For just a bit more, Arrow tore out all the siding and replaced it with hardieboard. They even replaced half a dozen studs that had had some damage. I watched as they caulked the seams and covered the nail holes. Next came the painting crew and they checked all the seams and nail holes and then primed the siding with a colored primer. Then came the main color. Spray painted both horizontal and verticle giving it a thick coat. Terry ll came by and suggested he power wash the garage door the next morning and send his crew back out to paint the door. This was not part of our contract but they painted the door and the stairs, again not part of the contract. The only delay in the project was a custom door that took them 3 extra days to get. Not their fault. All three crews were very professional, on time, cleaned up at the end of each day and didn't mind talking with us explaining things and answering our questions. We are so please with Arrow Building that we plan to use them when we move in a few years. Just today a friend saw our new garage and mentioned she had a roof that needed so attention. We immediately recommended Arrow Building. Great Job at a great price with great people."

"We started researching last summer how much it would cost and what it would entail to have our asbestos siding removed to prepare for our foundation to be repaired. We got three different bids, and San Diego Painting was right in the middle of the bids as far as cost was concerned and Al Canales, the estimator, struck me as being very concise about the job and I liked his attitude. We did not have the work done until March, but Al was very patient and understanding as to our anxiety about the job, since this is our first home and our first attempt at major repair. The forman for the job, Victor, was very professional and careful when removing the siding so that we could preserve the old wooden shingles underneath......which was a critical part of the job. They did a great job and we were happy with the job done."

Customers say: True professional

"Due to dry rot, we were in need of having a header and joists replaced to repair our deck. Since the deck planks were an obsolete type of TimberTech composite, care was needed not to damage them while replacing the header and joists. Green Light did an excellent job meeting all the deadlines. They finished on time for the agreed upon amount, but most importantly, the finished product looks great and is safe and sturdy with no damage to the TimberTech. Well Done!! We will use them again for upcoming projects."

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Jake to build a new deck for our yard and we could not be happier (both with the decision to hire Jake and the deck itself). We particularly appreciated the quality of his workmanship and his high level of attention to detail (something that was very important to us). Jake was also extremely helpful in the overall design and planning aspects of the project offering helpful suggestions about materials, potential layout, etc. every step of the way. Jake is responsive and professional and we would not hesitate to hire him again for future projects. On this deck project we were truly thrilled with the final results. Although we did see some lower bids for the work (before selecting Jake), we are confident that we got great value for our dollar in terms of final quality."

Siding questions, answered by experts

OSB is a common material used in sheathing, so when OSB prices go up, so does the cost of sheathing. Depending on the economy and supply chain, increased costs can reduce demand, though some homeowners proceed with their projects despite the elevated expenses.

You should restain or refinish your home's cedar siding every three to seven years to maintain its appearance and ensure maximum protection. The precise frequency depends on several factors, including your local climate, the siding's exposure to severe weather like direct sunlight, rain, and wind, the quality of the initial stain application, the type of stain used, and the condition of the wood.

Homeowners in harsh climates with high humidity and significant direct sunlight should plan on restaining every three years, while those in milder locations can wait up to seven years. For the longest-lasting protection in particularly harsh environments, consider using an opaque stain.

If you're looking for a lower-maintenance alternative, vinyl or aluminum siding are options to consider. Although their installation cost may be higher, they don't require as much upkeep over time, which can provide more value, especially in areas with excessive rainfall or high humidity.

Caulking should be re-applied roughly every five years. It's natural for a home to settle and separate caulking from joints, so it's a good idea to assess the home every two years. A consistent siding maintenance schedule will help you see if the caulking is needed and address any potential issues before they occur.

To maintain vinyl siding, homeowners should regularly clean it with mild soap and water, inspect for damage, and promptly repair any issues. Avoid using high-pressure washing and keep sharp objects away to prevent scratches. Check for mold or mildew and clean with a mixture of water and mild detergent. Take preventive measures to avoid fading, such as minimizing exposure to direct sunlight and using color-safe cleaning products. With proper maintenance, vinyl siding can retain its appearance for years.

The living space of a home doesn’t correlate directly with how many square feet of siding you’ll need, but on average, a 2,000-square-foot home will need 1,700 square feet of siding or 17 squares of siding. Your siding measurements will vary depending on the layout of your home, the number of stories, the size of your doors and windows, and even your roof style.
