"On a home built in 1957 Approved Contractor Inc (ACI) installed new construction windows and sliding glass doors, stripped the house of old siding, removed old plywood sheathing and old insulation, and then insulated and stuccoed the house. What was important was not only finding a reputable construction company, but also one that would coordinate the total project. The added benefits were quality work and high-end material, at a competitive price. Of note, was the stucco method (4 layers-coats - scratch, brown, finish and texture). The texture coat is an elastomeric paint (color of my choosing) that is water repellent, reflective and provides an even color on the walls - with a lifetime warranty. Other stucco contractors stop on the finish coat, with the color in stucco. In addition ACI uses its own subcontractors. ACI was professional, flexible, and did really great work. ACI was a superb choice."

"I hired Bentov Builders to build an outdoor living space in my front yard, and I couldn?t be happier with the results. I was actually out of state during most of the project, so communication and trust were extremely important to me. Sagi and the Bentov Builders team kept me updated, sent progress photos, explained each step clearly, and made the whole process feel very organized. The work came out beautiful. They handled the landscape remodel, masonry details, deck/patio area, and the overall outdoor design with a lot of attention to detail. The front yard now feels like a real outdoor living area, not just landscaping. If you?re looking for an outdoor living contractor, landscape remodeler, masonry contractor, or deck contractor in San Diego, I highly recommend Bentov Builders. Professional, reliable, and the quality of work speaks for itself."

Customers say: True professional

"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

"PBH did several house projects for me, including installing gutters and fancy fascia under my roof eaves. The work was perfect and all the workmen were polite, neat and clearly dedicated to making a perfect finished product. When they left, they cleaned up my entire yard. I would definitely rehire this company!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Brick and stone are durable, low-maintenance materials for siding and walls that offer excellent insulation, aesthetic appeal, and can increase property value.

Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.

The telltale signs that your home is ready for repointing include visibly damaged bricks, crumbling bricks, flaking bricks, loose mortar, cracked mortar, gaps between brick and mortar, leaking inside your home, and visible water damage. Consider repointing when going over brick house pros and cons if you're buying a new home. Repointing is also a good idea if you plan to paint, acid wash, or stain your brick home, as it will give you a good base for coloration and prevent repairs after the work is done.

Composite siding has excellent insulative properties and one of the highest R-values of siding materials available. Its R-value is 2 to 4; compare that to vinyl, wood, and fiber cement—all of which have R-values under 1. You can boost your siding’s R-value by installing a layer of foam insulation.

Vinyl is the most common shingle siding due to its rigid PVC design, longevity, affordability, and ease of installation. The next most popular types of shingle siding are fiber cement, which is in the mid-range for prices, and cedar shake, which is the most expensive. Consider the upfront cost, ongoing maintenance costs, and durability in your specific climate before deciding.
