"It took 3 hours to get an estimate. The salesman kept pressing for information about how much money I could put as a down payment. I only got an estimate after I threatened to leave. The total cost was very high. The person who called to schedule the salesman appointment was very pushy about windows and siding. About a week after my conversation with the salesman, a person called from DaBella and asked for a review of my experience. I finally hung up in exasperation. I have had other estimates from roofers who were able to be simple and direct. Price was a secondary factor in rejecting the company. I value simple, honest, direct people who are interested in getting me what I need and don't push."

"We started researching last summer how much it would cost and what it would entail to have our asbestos siding removed to prepare for our foundation to be repaired. We got three different bids, and San Diego Painting was right in the middle of the bids as far as cost was concerned and Al Canales, the estimator, struck me as being very concise about the job and I liked his attitude. We did not have the work done until March, but Al was very patient and understanding as to our anxiety about the job, since this is our first home and our first attempt at major repair. The forman for the job, Victor, was very professional and careful when removing the siding so that we could preserve the old wooden shingles underneath......which was a critical part of the job. They did a great job and we were happy with the job done."

"They showed up on time and knew what they were doing (replacing a wood rotted 6x6 post supporting my deck). They had the tools and equipment to do the job. Joel even made a modification to prevent future water intrusion. They also installed screening to keep birds out of my soffit. Only negative was I thought they were a little pricey, but based on their work I would recommend them."

"We found McCormick home builders through Angie’s list. They were not one of our original contacts, but they contacted us and came out to give us a quote. Matteo was extremely helpful, informative, honest, and gave us reasonable realistic prices, and did not try to inflate the prices or pressure us in anyway. We felt very comfortable with him immediately. We felt like he was a member of the family that we could just talk to and ask questions he was very personable. He gave us his contact number in case we had other questions and he was always available when we needed him for any type of questions or concerns. Mateo‘s team did a beautiful job. They were fast. They were efficient. They cleaned up beautifully. They did a wonderful job. They were very considerate of our time our needs and our neighbors. They were an absolute pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Matteo from McCormick home builders for any home building projects, and we will be calling him again in the future!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Insulated vinyl siding costs about twice as much as the cheapest form of vinyl siding, but it’s still more affordable than other types of siding, including fiber cement, wood, stone, and brick. You get a lot of bang for your buck with vinyl siding; it’s durable, it’s available in a wide range of styles and colors, and it helps lower your energy bills.

On it own, aluminum siding has a relatively low insulation value (also called R-value); aluminum siding has an R-value of 0.61. However, you can purchase insulated aluminum siding to increase the R-value to between 2 and 5. You can also install additional insulation within your walls to help maintain temperatures within your home. On average, insulation costs $1,825 to install throughout the typical home.

Brick and stone are the most durable and longest-lasting siding materials, often lasting for 100 years or more with proper maintenance. Copper is another material known to last over 100 years, though it can develop a greenish patina over time. Zinc is a metal siding that can last 80-100 years. While these options are the most expensive, they offer superior value and longevity. For a more affordable yet durable choice, stucco can last 50 to 80 years in dry climates. Fiber cement siding is another excellent middle ground, offering a lifespan of 50 years or more with low maintenance at a lower cost than stone or brick.

There are several highly durable types of siding that you can build right on top of without removing it, with wood being one of them, provided it's in excellent condition. However, a common reason for siding replacement is to eliminate materials that are in poor condition, making installing new wood siding over old not recommended. Additionally, the cost of adding siding over existing siding can increase costs to between $7 and $13 per square foot.

Siding is one of your home’s first lines of defense against extreme weather. If you fail to repair or replace your damaged siding, your home is exposed to wind, snow, and rain—all of which can cause structural damage. Repairing your home’s structure will be much more costly and be a much bigger headache than simply keeping your siding in tip-top shape, so don’t delay—fix your siding ASAP.
