He said none of these concerns interfered with the safety or integrity of our roof, and explained everything in a way that a layperson such as me would understand. In short, Rick said our roof is in great shape and doesn’t need to have anything done at all. He could have simply agreed with the other contractor and racked up more business for himself if he had wanted to do so; instead he didn’t charge me a cent for his time and effort although I would have been very happy to pay for the peace of mind he gave me. "I contacted four of the top rated angies list roofers in north county, all award winners...using the Angie's list mobile app. Three responded by the first business day and setup appointments to give me a quote. Mike at Sequoia was able to meet me the soonest. Had a quote already prepared using online data. He sat down at my kitchen table and explained the materials he uses, bringing a sample of the underlayment so I could see how durable it was. Also showed me options for low-e foil to reduce energy costs as well as new tile options. Not a high pressure sales but as informing me of the options. His crew started the following week and finished within a week and a half. Crew was punctual always starting promptly at 8am and cleaned up at the end of every day. We just had some of the worst rains with 4in in 4 days of almost noon stop rain. Rains used to be a time of anxiety because we knew we'd be wondering where the next leak would show up. But now with our new roof we are stress free and feel so grateful to Mike and Sequoia Roofing getting us our new roof just in time for this unbelievable rainy season! "I dealt with Leon De Anda for my roof work. Leon was honest and professional and very informative about what could be done with my roof. He offered me a few options and also asked me if there were anything specific I wanted done. I basically described what I wanted and he curtailed his bid to what I was looking for at the best price. I liked the fact that he was honest and straight forward without playing any games or try and screw me over. In the end, I decided to get a whole new roof, down to even getting all new plywood. The men who came to work on the roof were competent and professional. They went to great lengths to only bother me when it was necessary. "Purchased a tile roof tune-up deal here on Angie's List, needing to get some things addressed that the home inspector identified when we were buying the place in the Fall, and the tune-up seemed like a good way to kick that off. Tony, the owner of Great Western, came out to do the tune-up; his initial inspection confirmed what the home inspector's report had eluded to (home inspectors, generally, don't walk the roof as part of their inspection), as well as a few other things that needed attention, some more critical than others. He gave me an estimate for the things requiring the most immediate attention, along with an estimate for work that would get us that he was confident would deliver another 30+ years out of the already 30+ year-old cement tile roof (and it doesn't involve a new roof!) We scheduled the immediate repair work; he and his team arrived on the appointed day, and did an amazing job of installing metal flashing in place of the cracked mortar seals around the roof vents with metal flashings, replacing broken tiles, and fixing short-cuts taken by the original tract builder, etc. We'll definitely be using them to do the long-term roof rehab when Spring rolls around! TL;DR version - Tony and his staff are exactly what you want in any trade - consummate professionals who delivered high-quality work at a fair price."
