"Rob was the service technician who came by for check up on our Trane AC Unit. He was professional and courteous. He took time to explain and label damper settings for future reference. He was the best HVAC technician I have ever encountered thus far. Rob is definitely an asset to McCrea company. If I ever need service again, I want Rob to be the one to service my AC Unit. Thank you!"

"We put a contract on a house knowing that the heat pump and air handler were old (~14 years) - our home inspector took one look inside the unit and immediately turned it off as the inner coils were caked in filth.  He snapped photos and we could not tell if it was dirt or mold so we requested a mold inspection be done at the buyer's expense.  I purchased the deal to have the testers come out, take samples, and let us know what they find.  They were punctual, professional, and polite.  As the were working, they had a camera and video monitor for us to look inside the system and were able to confirm that what we were looking at was just years of built up dirt and dust (from never having the HVAC system professionally cleaned).  They took samples anyway and are going to get a report back to us.  The "deal" seemed expensive to me but the money was well worth the peace of mind before I move my family in.  We will probably recontact this company to get the ducts cleaned prior to moving in.

"Premium Home Services made everything incredibly smooth and easy to deal with. The major stress that comes along with having to replace an entire HVAC unit in a home is always the price, and unfortunately there isn't much that can be done about that (unless you have friends/family in the business and can get that hookup). Fortunately, when I initially purchased the home I knew that the HVAC unit was on its way out and was able to comfortably set aside the potential costs well in advance. The response that Premium Home Services offered is what made it great. Out of the three total estimates I'd requested, only Premium Home Services responded in a timely enough manner - that is to say they responded and had someone out within 24 hours. I've had experience in the past with other services where contractors responded in minutes and had folks out same-day, but I had no such expectations for a project as large as an HVAC replacement. They came out, explained what needed to be done, what they could do, and even tried to talk me out of replacing the whole unit as they would've been able to do some work to keep the current system up to save on costs. I had already decided on an entire replacement of the HVAC, but having a company provide you with options is something that, unfortunately, isn't always the case. The work took about 5-6 hours, and they worked in scorching heat and didn't seem to stop, except for the necessary water breaks. They cleaned up very well, they were very respectful of the interior of my home, and were very patient with the questions I had. I definitely recommend these guys."

"I have used this family own business for three different jobs. They put in a brand new system in my place of business, They replaced my heat pump at my primary residence and they replaced my heat pump and ductwork at my cabin. All of the jobs were done very professionally, and the price was reasonable. I will continue to use them for all of my heating and AC needs. Matt and his sons are great."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Modern AC leak sealants work as a temporary measure to stop refrigerant leaks. You can purchase them at most home improvement stores or on online. When using an AC leak sealant, keep in mind that it’s only a temporary solution, so you’ll still need to hire a pro to install a replacement part as soon as possible.

If the air coming from your AC unit is cool but never quite cold, there are a few reasons this might be happening. For starters, it could signal that your refrigerant levels are low. If there are no other indications of this particular issue, like hissing noises or frozen refrigerant lines, anything from dirty filters to damaged condenser or evaporator coils could be responsible for the problem.

To keep your air conditioner in good working condition, you should have it serviced by a professional at least once per year, ideally in the spring before the cooling season begins. If your AC unit is 10 years or older, consider servicing it twice a year (once in the spring and once in the fall) to catch potential problems early and help it reach its full lifespan. During a service visit, a technician will inspect, clean, and replace parts as needed. Regular maintenance helps avoid costly repairs. As a DIY task, you can also clean the evaporator coils annually.

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

The cost to repair an air conditioner averages around $350 to $450, but the price can range from $100 to over $3,000. The final cost depends on the type of air conditioner, the extent of the damage, and the specific parts that need replacement. For example, repairing a window AC unit typically costs between $100 and $250, while central air conditioner repairs can range from $300 to $3,000. A simple fix like replacing a dirty filter might only cost $10 to $50, but a major issue like a broken compressor could cost around $2,000 or more, potentially making it more cost-effective to replace the entire system. Due to the need for specialty tools and handling of refrigerants, repairs more complex than changing a filter are best left to a professional.
