"Estimate went well, with responsive appearance, took pictures, explained the issues, and gave a reasonable quote. However, when the technicians arrived, they took over an hour to conclude that they could not fix the chimney at the price offered, that they would need two full days to do it, instead of a half day, but that they would do just the crown molding for 90% of the cost. When I pointed out that this appeared to be 50% of the work for 90% of the cost, the technician just shrugged and told me to call his boss. His boss was pleasant, agreed that the work could not be done at the price quoted, and agreed (grudgingly) to refund the deposit. A week later, another chimney service came out and gave a simple answer to the problem (which involved asking our HVAC guys to come out and work with them to get around the problem) and offered a quote only $50 more. They did the work in a half day, no break in the wall. I can only conclude that the technicians at SixPenny simply weren't as knowledgeable as the competitor about chimney construction."
