"Diep is truly knowledgeable in his craft. He came to my home and was able to diagnose issues with the installment of new thermostat. He understood the HVAC system in my home, fixed potential long-term issues, and even made a few more requested modifications for little additional costs. He saved me time and the headache of dealing with unqualified phone personalities of the thermostat company that installed my thermostat. Most of all, his price was extremely reasonable. I would highly recommend his company to ANYONE with HVAC issues."

"I was very pleased with the dryer vent cleaning. arrived on time and did a great job getting on the roof and cleaning the vent all the way down to the vent opening on the dryer machine. Carried out all the cleaning from the roof. It was fairly dirty and I could see all the stuff / lint coming out. Excellent job. The vent / ac & heating cleaning was okay but not great. Great job on the major vents and cleaning the opening by the unit. However only cleaned the top / short distance of all the other vents coming into the rooms. Will probably not use them for this work next time. Will use again for the dryer vent cleaning. Really good."

"We had an absolutely fantastic experience with X&M Heating and Cooling! From start to finish, Richard was beyond responsive, professional, and genuinely a pleasure to work with. You don’t always expect replacing major home systems to feel stress-free, but Richard made the whole process smooth and even enjoyable. They replaced our AC/Furnace (Condenser, Coil Pack, and Heater) as well as our hot water tank—a big job—and the crew knocked it out of the park. Everything was installed with care, attention to detail, and a clear pride in their workmanship. Richard took the time to explain what was happening every step of the way, which gave us total peace of mind. What stood out most, though, was the responsiveness. Whenever I had a question, Richard was quick to answer, patient, and genuinely friendly—it felt like working with a trusted neighbor rather than just a contractor. If you’re looking for a team that does top-notch work - don't look any further."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

High humidity, bad insulation, warmth from sunlight, and poor circulation are all reasons your home’s hotter inside than out. While this is what you want in the colder months, summer can become unbearable if this is a constant. Try to find the cause, but you need to remember that issues like this require a permanent fix (unless you want to bear down during the summer months).

Signs that your air conditioner capacitor is bad or failing include a range of symptoms. The AC unit may not turn on at all, or it might struggle to start before shutting down randomly or in the middle of a cooling cycle. You might hear a humming or banging noise when it attempts to start, or the compressor might hum without the unit actually running. Other indicators include a smell or smoke coming from the unit, the blower circulating room-temperature air instead of cold air, and an unexpected increase in your energy bills.

While an air conditioner can temporarily run with a dirty filter, it is not recommended as it will not work efficiently. A dirty filter forces the system to work harder to circulate cool air, leading to reduced airflow, increased wear and tear, and higher energy bills. This added strain can cause the air conditioner to overheat or fail prematurely. Furthermore, a clogged filter may allow dust and dirt to accumulate in your ductwork, negatively impacting air quality. It is more cost-effective to clean or replace filters regularly than to pay higher utility bills and risk needing to replace the entire AC unit.

Yes, it’s normal for an AC to drip water. In fact, it’s part of the dehumidifying process that takes place inside your AC unit as the condensation trickles down into the drain pan. However, it isn’t normal for your AC to sound like it’s running water or have large puddles around it. If that happens, you can try the solutions listed above or call an AC repair pro.

It’s critical to use the right size AC for your space and not go too small or too big. If you purchase an undersized unit, it won’t properly cool your house, and it has to work harder to reach the optimal temperature. This will eventually wear your unit out. An oversized unit can spell trouble because it will turn off and on more frequently, which also wears out your AC unit. An oversized unit also causes humidity in the home.
