"Ruma Plumbing is amazing! We wanted to have a sink installed in our lower level. Wael came out and he was on time, wore shoe covers when he came in the house. He explained to me the entire project top to bottom and explained pricing options. We wanted a garbage disposal added and he gave us options to have either way. We hired Ruma Plumbing to do the job and man what a great experience. Wale came over with the proper supplies, He was again one time, I got a phone call when he was on the way by the way which I really appreciated so I could alert my zoom conference that I may need to step away for a moment, Again shoe covers and clean workspace, he installed my new sink and garbage disposal and cabinet setup all the pipes are done beautifully he cleaned up the area before leaving, I have been very happy with the new sink in my lower level, the garbage disposal works great and looks great! Thank You Ruma!! :)"

"I forgot to do this review but am glad I did because I am two years out having waterproofing services by this company. The drain and sump pump recommended by Robert Ellis is absolutely worth it. I no longer am anxious about weather forecasts because of the work done. Robert evaluated my home, gave me options and soft recommendations then allowed me space to make the best long term decision. Completely satisfied and would recommend."

"Called me back within 60 seconds of the request by HomeAdvisor! Offered to come by yet that afternoon, despite it being a Saturday (and no, I didn't pay extra). He pulled my sewage extractor pump, found the impeller jammed, and tried to clear it. Unfortunately, testing then showed that the pump motor was dead. So he even offered to wait while I drove to Home Depot to buy a new pump for him to install. Problem solved, and in a single trip. Incredibly responsive; very friendly and capable; happy to explain exactly what he did. Not inexpensive, but probably competitive with what I'd pay anywhere else. Recommended, and will call him again for future plumbing issues."

"They had to replace the sump pump for the basement bathroom. The service and work were great, and the system works better than the original. I appreciate that they are very conscious about social distancing."

"My sump pump was starting to fail. Shane was able to confirm the problem and replace the sump pump. From initial call to replacement was one day. Excellent service! After work was complete, everything was cleaned up. Overall, professional service and efficient billing/invoicing/etc. I highly recommend DB. This is the second time I have used DB and both times have been great."

"We have worked with Beacon in the past. They were very responsive and scheduled us quickly this time for a GFCI outlet replacement in an outdoor window well sump pump before it rained again (Our basement had flooded with the previous rain.). Chris was on time, very professional and gave me an estimate with options. We decided on a cost effective option for us now along with some recommendations and estimates for some future work. They were very easy to work with and I would call them again. They waive the visit fee if you use them for the work and he gave us a military discount!"

"Expected Snell to be one of the higher bids, based on all of the good things I head heard/read. They came back with very competitive pricing for Lennox gas furnace and air conditioning systems which they installed quickly and professionally. Great experience."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

To maintain your sump pump, start by checking it every three to four months to ensure it’s in working order. Clear any debris from the pit because blockages can prevent the pump from operating efficiently. You should also test the pump by pouring a bucket of water into the pit. If it turns on automatically and drains the water, it’s functioning correctly. Inspect the discharge line for clogs, and ensure it directs water away from your home. Once a year, clean the pump itself, and consider having it professionally serviced for optimal performance.

Yes, a well-maintained sump pump can increase a home's value and make it more desirable to potential buyers; it does not lower property value. By protecting the basement from flooding and water damage, a sump pump provides peace of mind and can make the space usable for storage or as an extra room. For buyers interested in homes with basements, a working sump pump is a significant feature that adds value by ensuring the space is secure and less likely to flood.

Most sump pumps come with power cords that can be plugged into an outlet, but there are options that can be hardwired into a home’s electrical system. Either way, it’s smart to have a backup power supply in case the electricity goes out during a storm. That way, the sump pump can keep running and removing water from the sump pit.

Yes, it’s possible to install a sewage ejector pump outside rather than in a basement. However, there may be some extra steps involved, including running pipes from the inside to the outside of your home and digging (and re-filling) a hole for the basin. If you aren’t comfortable with this type of work, contact a plumbing pro to handle it for you.

Sewer ejector pumps need to be cleaned at least once a year by a professional. You shouldn’t attempt to clean it yourself because it can release sewer gasses that are toxic to humans and can be fatal. But to keep the system as clean as possible between professional inspection and cleaning services, be sure to only flush human waste and toilet paper. Avoid flushing items that can clog the system, like paper towels, grease, oil, or menstruation products.
