"VKB far exceeded out expectations for our new kitchen design and installation; as well as, the resurfacing and stain/varnish to my existing floors and stairs. My wife and I are very pleased with the final outcome. Money was well spent. Base on our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend their services again. Jack and Suzanne McClinton."

"They installed an interior door in our finished basement. They started on time. They finished on time and the door looks like it was always there. They cleaned up nicely after their work was done. We could not be happier with the quality of their work!"

"We used Samâ s Home Improvement to create our backsplash. He had a good price, and we were very impressed with his subcontractor, Luis Quispe, who actually did the tile work. He understood our plans, gave some suggestions, and was flexible with changes. The end result is fabulous."

"Father and son team came and installed 6 LED recessed lighting and a dimmer. They explained everything well and were honest with their opinion. There was no sense of upselling and the work was done professionally and they cleaned up after the work was done. Would definitely hire again. Support small businesses!"

"Our large unfinished basement was full of a few worthy items but mostly junk. Over the years I had always said we should have it finished for my own children, but never did. But as my grandsons grew older, I as a widower wanted a space for them to watch TV, have friends over and play games such as air hockey and pool. This was my selfish way of having them come over to my house. After having most junk removed, and reading countless review of contractors on Angi, I selected All Renovations. I wanted a TV viewing area on the smaller side and a game room on the other side with a half bath. The estimate was very fair. These guys know what they are doing and took charge, sometimes working late into the night. I worried probably too much about the small stuff. Ainea and his crew, Daniel, Robert and others showed up on time and closely followed the terms of the contract. As we went along, they made adjustments and improvements either I recommended or they did. They can do practically anything within reason. This flexibility helped lower my blood pressure and they earned my full respect and confidence. The basement is beautiful and am very glad I chose All Renovations! SAC"

"Two brothers were fantastic from start to finish. They came out very quick to review the proposed work, gave a detailed estimate, were open to revisions to the estimate and upfront about the timing of the project. They discussed every aspect with me, checking on details I hadn't even considered (eg, tile spacing, replacing certain old fixtures). They embraced my slightly out of the ordinary requests (floor to ceiling dark teal!). It was clear they had a goal of good quality work for the customer without cutting corners as opposed to making the most money. The work was performed efficiently and they quickly fixed anything I noticed was needed (no work is perfect the first time!). I am looking forward to having them do other mid-range projects at the house."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

You'll find Arts and Crafts homes across the country in varying styles. On the East Coast, bungalows and Tudor Revivals fill the Boston area through New Jersey. In the West, Mission-style homes incorporate terracotta shingles, white stucco siding, and rounded archways.

The early stages of building a house are harder than the later stages; laying the foundation and framing the house are two of the most challenging steps. However, it varies for everyone. Some people have difficulty installing HVAC, plumbing, and electricity, while others find it harder to plan the house and secure the necessary permits.

While it’s never too early to start planning for a major home improvement project like a home addition, give yourself at least a month or two to plan and design your addition, find a contractor, and get the permits in order. For larger projects like a second-story addition that require designing with an architect, plan on three to four months of preparation.

Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.

Dark academia is more of an interior decorating style than it is a type of architecture, but it calls on themes prevalent in gothic architecture. Part of the appeal of dark academia is that you can achieve the look and feel without renovating or remodeling your home. Instead, you can switch to a dark color palette and introduce metal, natural wood furniture, plaid decor, old books, and gothic decor to get the look and feel just right.
