I paid $200 for a thorough cleaning and inspection of my fireplace . Didn’t know the ash box is not included in the cleaning . Ridiculous. It’s the nastiest part of the fireplace. They didn’t advise of this before the cleaning nor offered to clean it for an additional fee. Yes, I emailed asking why . Just that it wasn’t covered. Ripoff

Good. A bit overpriced for work performed.

Masonry repair was done effectively. Communication with main office was good. One minor oversight was corrected on request.

The Chimney Doctor NOVA Inc failed to honor their warranty on work done.

Went well. Was able to book quickly. Good communication and came within their time window.

Called and made appointment for exterior chimney inspection for $100. They showed up exactly in the time window; inspected the chimneys; wrote up a proposal to replace crowns, fix broken flue tile, re-seal flashing for $650 per chimney for total of $1300. Because I accepted the proposal they waived the $100 inspection charge. I paid 20% down and the remainder a week later when they came to do the work. All work was done from outside house with only access to water and power required. No issues. I'd use them again.

They did an excellent job on all of the work they performed! Very thorough and made sure everything was done just right. Had a very solutions-oriented approach to challenges, which I appreciated. All of the crew and staff were lovely to work with, pleasant and responsive and efficient. They have my highest recommendation.

I worked with The Chimney Doctor regarding some fireplace/chimney damage and inspection matters. The customer service was phenomenal from the beginning to the end. I would highly recommend to anyone requiring chimney services in the northern VA area!

The Chimney Doctor is by far the best company I've dealt with on masonry and chimney work in a long time. The crew was prompt, extremely professional, and did an amazing job. They not only repaired everything that was needed, but also made sure that their repair job looked really good and blended with the surrounding bricks. Chimney Doctor gets a "A" for the actual chimney work and a "F" for clean-up (which averages out to a "C"). The mortar between the bricks of our chimney was beginning to deteriorate. We hired Chimney Doctor to tuckpoint most of the chimney and perform other minor work re: the cap. The work itself was done in a reasonable amount of time and looks great. That said, the chimney is located right next to our new composite deck that we had built a few months ago. I emphasized several times in writing to the company that the deck was the largest investment we had made in the house and we were very sensitive about protecting it. They acknowledged this sentiment multiple times, also in writing. Despite these requests, the furniture and the deck surfaces were a complete mess after they finished their work. The workers allowed the dust to settle on the deck and, due to the high humidity, this dust adhered itself to every surface. The company acknowledged this issue and did send an employee days later to clean the deck. Unfortunately, this was ineffective. It took me hours over several days (I had to wait for the deck to dry each time to see spots I missed) of power washing and scrubbing to get the deck clean again and to clean each item of furniture. When I informed them of this situation, they did apologize but provided no other refund or resolution. I recognize this process creates dust and that's just part of the work, but I think they could've done much more to either proactively protect the deck, to suggest that WE should've put some tarps down on our own, or to pay for a professional 3rd party company to come in and clean up. All told, if your chimney is nowhere near a nice patio/deck/etc., then by all means hire Chimney Doctor. If it is near an area you're sensitive about, then I'd look elsewhere or at least be prepared for a large clean-up effort on your part.

They were responsive, professional, on time and did a great job! Costs seemed reasonable compared to others. First they came out to do thorough level 2 inspection using a camera to view the entire chimney flue (as well as visual inspection from roof and a look at the brickwork inside the attic where the chimney comes down into the house). They identified issues with the liner and exterior cracks/wear that had let in water, which needed repair. The inspection has a fee, but the estimate for repairs is free. We opted to get the exterior repairs done this summer and have them back in the fall to do the interior liner repairs. The same technicians who did the inspection came back and did the repairs which required three visits. Work included repointing the bricks, rebuilding the crown, replacing the cracked clay liner on top, and replacing the cap damper system (visit 1), returning to seal the flashing and clean exterior (visit 2), and finally waterproofing exterior (visit 3). During the first visit they also did a chimney sweep. The technicians were knowledgeable, courteous, and cleaned up nicely after they were done each time. We look forward to having them back in the fall to replace the chimney liner.

The Chimney Doctor team did a great job for us and are highly recommended. I secured several estimates for the work (plus some parging work I elected not to do) and they were either middle or low on both. Austin did the estimate, made some excellent recommendations for a solution, and came back to do the final installation. He brought a helper but did most of the work himself, finishing and cleaning up in under 90 minutes. Austin is a real asset to the company -- he's knowledgeable, professional, works quickly, cleans up thoroughly and uses care with the client property, and delivers great value in service. We won't hesitate to use Chimney Doctor again.

Project went well

The end result seems to be pretty good but the project had a lot of bumps with multiple visits by multiple crews. One crew dumped white liquid in two parts on the front lawn and killed grass, dumped fireplace ashes beneath a tree in the front yard, and dumped unused concrete (which then hardened) in the far corner of the back yard. Another crew failed to do the work to replace the concrete cap at the top of the chimney, so water dripped into the fireplace the next time it rained and another crew had to come to do the work, and the painting of the firebox had to be delayed while the fireplace dried out. Not sure if the supervision of the crews is not good or the company is using unreliable subcontractors, but the whole project was an adventure that I would not want to repeat.

Very pleasant, nice guys. They were recommended to me by two other Chimney Service companies for which I have high regard ( as a property manager). I called them for a scope/camera inspection and estimate on repair if needed. The chimney had bricks or terracotta chunks in the bottom which I could see from the furnace flue. I was looking for proof that they had fallen from inside the flue and had not been there since the chimney was built. They said that they would scope/take photos of the inside of the chimney. They had been to the house previously for an inspection (no photos) They did not scope or take any photos of the chimney. They did leave an estimate of $5160 for a chimney liner. They may be a very good company, but I was disappointed on two counts: 1) no photographic proof to support a very expensive repair, and 2) the price was really high (they may not have wanted to do the work?). Other estimates I received for the same chimney repair ranged from $3200 -$1900. Theirs was by far the highest. I paid about $130 for the inspection. They were prompt, professional and very pleasant. They also provided a very informative pamphlet called Safety and Comfort. Their estimate was much more detailed and specific than the others, which I appreciate. They required an Arlington Co permit to do the work while the others made no mention of it or said it was not required. They offer a lifetime warranty on the liner, cap and damper. It was a very useful and informative experience; they may be the best co. in spite of the really high price. Further research on my part is required in order to make a decision.

Part of our chimney case was blown off in a storm and came crashing down on the deck. The wood was completely rotten (been up there since 1992). That meant all the wood had to be replaced. I discovered this company from suggestions that Angie List gave me. They came out climbed on our roof, took pictured and gave me an estimate of the repair. All the work they were going to do was listed on their work proposal. Out of 4 companies, they were the only ones to do this. I really give them kudos because because it was about 100 degrees when they actually did the work. They cleaned up everything after they finished. The two gentlemen that came did a excellent job and even took an old TV antenna of the roof for us. Defiantly would use them again. Note to Chimney Doctor: You have great guys working for you.

On schedule, work completed as explained, cleanup after completion. No followup issues.

Everything went better than expected. The schedulers were super sweet and sympathetic to my unique needs (potential animal removal) and the on-site lead technician, Robert, was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful in explaining all the issues associated with the work required. Lucky for the animal, the removal service was not required. Awesome team. I highly recommend!
