"Joe gave a reasonable quote based on pictures of where I needed to have tiles replaced.. He was easy to schedule with and contacted me a day before to confirm. The work was well done and looks so good I cannot tell the repairs from original! I would hire Tile & Grout Solutions again and recommend to anyone."

"We replaced all of the flooring in our 2000 sq ft house with luxury vinyl plank. We needed to demo out the existing tile and laminate and have the new flooring installed. We got 3 bids. Kris was professional, very responsive and easy to communicate with. His bid was reasonable and he was able to get us on the schedule in our time frame so we went with Footprints Floors. Kris remained easy to communicate with and we appreciated his quick response time. Unfortunately his team was having problems the week of our project and he had to cut some of his workers. It slowed down the progress and took longer than expected. The guys that worked on the project were there every day but there were only 2 of them and they spoke no English so communicating with them directly was challenging. They were hard workers and did a fine job but it was a really big project for such a small crew and we were out of our house much longer than expected. There were a few small issues during the installation but nothing major and the end result turned out nice. Kris tried to stay on top of things and his crew chief came by regularly to check on the progress and communicate with the workers. Overall I would recommend Kris and Footprints Floors."

"Joe Maxwell from Tile & Grout Solutions was definitely the solution to my problem. My sweet landlady removed the stick-on laminate flooring from the bathroom floor, revealing a beautiful ceramic tile underneath. She used Goo Gone, a scraper, and some kind of other cleaner to remove the adhesive. Oh Lordy, what a mess. There was not only sticky residue from the adhesive, but also oily residue from the Goo Gone! I tried, but couldn't get it off. Enter Joe and Tile & Grout Solutions! He applied a commercial-grade, professional stripper product first, followed by a cleaner on the ceramic tile. He mopped it and blew it dry, and it is now clean, fresh, and really gorgeous. PLUS, his price was reasonable for the work he did. I recommend Joe and Tile & Grout Solutions. He may be the solution to YOUR problems, too."

"From Start to Finish, the job was done with customer satisfaction in mind. The quote I received for installing hardwood flooring in the living room and huge 33x33 porcelain tiles in the foyer and the kitchen was very fair, very reasonable, and very competitive. Kevin and his crew worked with all the delays with the weather, and also the recent problems with shortages of materials and the late shipment of the materials that either never arrived, or arrived much later than originally estimated. He was very accommodating with rescheduling his crew to be here when the materials finally arrived. I was quite impressed with how reliable and how professional the crew were during their job performance. They were prompt with showing up for the job when promised, and worked non stop until the job was completed to my satisfaction. The crew was very knowledgeable and skilled with the installations of both the hardwood flooring and the oversized 33x33 porcelain tiles. Installing heavy, large format tiles like these where all the tiles are level and straight takes skill and knowledge and the installation was spot on and perfect. The hardwood flooring and the porcelain tiles look absolutely spectacular. Finding reliable and knowledgeable contractors to work on our homes is becoming such a challenge these days. I actually ended up hiring them to do several backsplashes and new floor tiles in a couple more bathrooms while they were here. I would highly recommend Zavala Flooring if you are looking for fair and reasonable pricing for your flooring projects but also skilled and experienced contractors."

"It was Awesome! Gladys and her crew have the experience to know just what to do when they hit a bump in the road which often happens in older homes. Thy show up on time, stay on budget, and clean up as they go along. I just cannot say enough good things about TexBest. I would not use anyone else for wood floors or tile installation"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.
