"Pacific Northwest Arborists was great to work with. Keith helped me realize that my browning cherry tree was not in great shape so I ended up having them remove it. They also pruned my apple tree which looks better than it has in years. The crew was great to work with - especially considering the 90 degree heat. I would definitely hire them again."

"This company provided excellent service. They trimmed a very overgrown hedge and removed 5 arborvitae trees that were leaning against my house. They removed all of the debris and did an excellent job. Juan checked with me to make sure that he had trimmed the hedge the way that I wanted it."

"We first discussed what was best for the mature trees and i appreciated the experience of the arborist and accepted his experience and quote for the work. Communication could have been clearer about arrival time but the work and cleanup were perfect!!! I would hire them again. They area professional, friendly and very good."

"They did an excellent job removing a large tree positioned beside my home; awkward location on the edge of a hill. With very little space for access, they were still able to perform the task, perfectly. Cleanup was also top notch! Thank you and will recommend to others! Michael B."

"Panta reached out to me after I did a search on Angie's list for an arborist to come and take down a couple of trees, clean up a poorly maintained magnolia tree and bring up the canopy of a large fir. Panta was incredibly kind, knowledge, and personable. Panta and Santos did a spectacular job cleaning up the trees on our property at a competitive price. They also we're very nice to my toddler and little dog. I would highly recommend their services!"

"I have nothing, but good things to say about them. They were reasonably priced. They came out on really short notice. I called the guy at about 6:30 in the morning because his phone hours were 6 am. He answered the phone and he was there probably 2 or 3 hours later with a crew to remove a tree. It was pretty amazing. It was leaning on my neighbor's house so it was kind of an emergency and was about to go out of town. Even with all that he could have really stuck and told me but he didn't. He actually charged me a really reasonable price. He even came back on Thanksgiving Day to finish the job. It was $750 to remove a very large tree and most of the trunk was actually lying on the roof of my neighbor's house. It actually involved them having to climb up on the roof, cut up this huge tree and haul it up the driveway. It took a crew of 4 guys, a good part of a day and at least 6 hours to do this removal. It was no small job. The $750 was pretty good because I was getting prepared for $1500 to $2000. I thought $750 was really reasonable for that quicker service and to get it out in one day basically. I hired him for a second tree removal because when I was looking around my yard there was actually another tree that looked like it was a little bit precarious also leaning towards my neighbor's house. I didn't want to push my luck so I hired him to do that which he came back and did while I was out of town. It was similarly priced. It might have been a little bit more because it was actually a larger tree and I think that was $850. I think he was honest and he certainly was responsive. I would recommend him to others. I'm going to call him back definitely the next time when I have a major yard clean up or a mishap. I think he does advertise tree removal. They seem to know what they are doing. I don't think they are arborists or primarily advertise themselves as tree service or anything, but they are all around hard working guys. They know enough about what they are doing."

"Monkey Tree Service workers who came to our house were exceptionally professional, courteous and efficient. The gentleman who was shown the trees and bushes that needed to be trimmed asked the right questions and offered appropriate advice. Unlike other contractors, the estimates were broken out so I could choose which parts I would accept. In my case there was a large amount for removing blackberry bushes which didn't fit my budget, so I was able to remove that task. The estimate took a couple of days to arrive by email, longer than promised. As I had to remove the blackberry task, I could not approve and asked for a revision. Again, the response time for that was less than desired. Once I did approve, scheduling was another problem. They promised one date, so I worked from home to accomodate, and they didn't show. Then they offer two dates, one of which was wrong (Wednesday the 17th was not a date in this month in this year). I chose a date...then a new email offers another date, which I accepted. This time they did show up. I went through what needed to be done. They were very efficient and had all the right equipment, cutting branches safely and chipping them immediately. In one case they decided to cut the branch in a different way than I had asked to let some of the green needles mask part of our yard, "otherwise you'd have a big hole there," as Mahdil explained. Being conservative about cutting and aware: very good service! I would not have been able to do what they did in the hour they took to do it. Very pleased."

"I hired Jose to remove "volunteer" bushes growing in my juniper along my embankment slope. I originally met with him to remove a tall leaning pine tree. He spoke openly and honestly about the trees on my property and professionally advised NOT to remove the leaning tall pine tree. He backed up his advice with his very logical and sensible scientific horticultural research and experience. He explained that, even though he is losing the money he could make if he just removed the tree, he honesty did not believe there was a need to do so. He noted that the tree is healthy and is part of a root system that has joined other trees in my yard to keep the embankments from sliding downhill. He also pointed out that the upper part that is leaning is only doing so to reach the sunlight, is very strong and would not, in all probability fall during a winter storm. JV has such excellent knowledge that I trusted his wisdom and experience. Instead of tree removal he removed unwanted bushes."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Cutting down a dead tree is always strongly advisable. Aside from being an eyesore, a dead tree can be extremely hazardous, especially when it’s near people or structures. Even if the tree isn’t near your home, it can still harbor pests and diseases that can potentially spread to nearby plants and homes.

There are two types of arborists: certified and consulting. A certified arborist is licensed and equipped to provide tree pruning, planting, fertilizing, monitoring, transplanting, treatment, and removal services. A consulting arborist specializes in tree appraisals, diagnosing problems and recommending treatments for illnesses. However, they will not provide these services themselves. Most consulting arborists are certified arborists who can refer you to a tree service that can administer the correct treatments.

In most ways, palm trees are incredibly low-maintenance. They don’t need a ton of water—which is why they’re so beloved in desert regions—and they basically prune themselves. But they do need an ample supply of sunlight and to be in soil that will allow for proper drainage so that their roots don’t become waterlogged and at risk of developing illnesses.

If the plant begins to wilt, develop spots, or change color, these could all be signs that your palm tree has a disease. But a few basic treatments, like pruning and applying fungicide, will usually be more than enough to return it to perfect health.

You can shape a cherry tree by trimming vertical branches, dense branches, and intersecting branches. Your personal aesthetic comes into play, as well. If you want to simply thin and shape the tree, you can get away with trimming the aforementioned parts of your cherry tree. If you want to shorten branches, however, consider thinning cuts, which alter the length of the branches while encouraging light penetration, new buds and shoots, and a structurally-sound shape.

Consumers typically do not need to worry about the cost of tree insurance, as professional tree service companies pay for their own coverage. For a tree service business, an average U.S. policy covering about $1 million in general liability costs roughly $40 a month or $500 a year. More extensive policies, providing between $500,000 to $2 million in coverage, can cost between $3,000 and $6,000 annually, depending on the company's size and scope of work. Tree service professionals should speak with an insurance company to determine the right plan for their business.
