"Mark was great! Very reasonably priced and we couldn t be happier with our floors. He did all the work himself and was prompt, kind, knowledgeable, and clean (he always cleaned up at the end of the day). Our project took about 4 1/2 days and with the exception of one late start day (which we knew about) Mark was at our home early each day and worked hard and non stop ALL day! Our floors are beautiful and we are grateful to have found Mark!"

"I am very pleased with AVA Construction. From the bidding process to the installation of the solid hardwood floor, Aleksey was very professional and a real craftsman. After the floor was installed he made sure the work area was clean and returned to normal. I would definitely use this company again."

"Levi and his team were incredibly communicative throughout the process, which was a welcome change after having issues getting other contractors to respond. They had to demolish about 1600 sq ft of gnarly tile, and installed our new floors in time for us to move into our house. I would definitely recommend Levi and his team for any wood floor installation project."

"Adam was great, he showed up right on time and had the repair done within 30 minutes. I had an extra piece of carpet, so he was able to use that to patch a small area at the door to our master bedroom. I will definitely use them again when needed."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Raising a sunken living room requires help from a professional contractor. The expert will remove existing flooring and trim, reroute utility lines with respect to the new floor level, pour concrete to fill the recessed space, and then let the concrete cure. After the foundation is raised up, the contractor will install the new utility lines, repaint the walls, if necessary, and finish the area with flooring and trim.

The flooring that is the least toxic is solid wood. Natural linoleum, tile, stone, bamboo, and cork flooring also make the list of least-toxic flooring types. These flooring materials are safer and healthier for your home because they are natural materials that aren’t manufactured with chemicals, unlike laminate flooring. While some laminate flooring brands are made with less formaldehyde, many contain high levels of toxic chemicals that can off-gas in your home for months and years after installation.

Choosing natural flooring materials that are easy to clean without chemical cleansers can also help keep your home safer.

Not all attic floors are created equal—size, layout, and square footage often vary. The amount of weight an attic floor can hold depends on several factors including the joist size and position, any structural supports or subfloors, and the original intent of the attic design. Without structural reinforcement, your floor might only be able to support about 10 pounds per square foot of floor load before collapsing.

If you’re doing a full bathroom remodel, the flooring will go in before the vanity and any other bathroom cabinetry. This will ensure that the same floor is present across your whole bathroom should you ever tear out your vanity and start again.

If you can only budget for one or the other, you can still replace just the vanity in your bathroom. Just keep in mind that if you decide to replace your flooring later, you’ll need to tear out the vanity to avoid having mismatched floors.

One of the upsides of cork flooring is that it's mold-resistant, so you don't have to worry about mildew or mold growth on wet cork. However, you should always clean up any moisture as soon as possible and use as little water as you need when cleaning. This will help you avoid issues like buckling or swelling in your cork flooring, which often requires replacement, and prevent moisture from seeping into your subfloor, which can cause the dreaded mold or mildew problems.
