"I called Rigid after a hail storm. Robert came out promptly and inspected for damage. He worked with my insurance company during the whole process and made sure all damage was accounted for and everything was brought up to code. They also did a patio extension at the same time and gave me multiple options to get the look I wanted within my budget. Nothing but professional, will definitely use again!"

"Want to go on record to say that service was excellent from initial contact and a thorough timely evaluation and appraisal with supporting documentation. I found the work to be very professional and was done in an expedient fashion. Company was very transparent in pricing and I found their actual pricepoint to be more than fair for the final rendered report. That said, I would gladly use this company again if I had the need."

"I find Groundworks and all of the employees I encountered or spoke with have a high work ethic and clear, thoughtful, communication. The gentleman that did the initial inspection and measurements of my home, Braden, did a great job explaining the process for leveling and protecting my crawl space. When Braden left, I was comfortable in knowing what I should expect to see when the job is completed. I can’t say enough here about the team that did the hard work at a time when we have triple digit temperatures. Mike and his team, that consisted of Jett, and on a few days an additional hard working young man, were so good at their jobs. At times I observed that they seemed to move like clockwork. My communications with all of the team was good. Mike took time to update me and show images of the work as it progressed. The bottom line is that I highly recommend Groundworks. The company was like a breath of fresh air for me."

"They walked me through every step, helped deal with the insurance company, and made everything easy. Unlike some contractors, who are difficult to communicate with and slow to act, they were proactive and kept the process moving. The finished product was excellent. My only complaint is that the siders somehow messed up the back door frame, and now the door won't close properly. They promised to come fix it, but I'm still waiting two weeks later. They may yet come, we'll see."

"The experience with RC Roofing was completely professional, from first to last contact. The owner took a lot of time inspecting the roof, discussing needs we had and going over the insurance adjuster's notes before giving us a bid. After we accepted the bid, which was about average in cost compared to the other bids we received, we scheduled the replacement. The weather report predicted a 30% chance of rain for the scheduled day, so the owner called by mid-day to reschedule. When the work was done, the crew arrived on time and got right to work. The owner arrived a little while later and we discussed some of the procedures and he answered more of my questions. Unlike previous roof replacements, removing the old roof and most of the new installation was done by the end of the day. By noon the next day, all of the work was done and our property was really clean (unlike previous roofing experiences). The work crew were very professional and methodical in going about their business, and the end result looks great. In addition, Owens Corning inspected and we got a preferred warranty. To cap off a good roofing experience, the owner worked with our insurance adjuster to get us compensation for necessary amendments to the original bid. If you are shopping for roofing work, I doubt you could do better than RC Roofing."

"We decided to get our roof replaced by 1907 Roofing and couldn't be happier! Our previous roof was about 12 years old and there was an issue with a leak making its way into the interior of our home. The care and detail they put into doing a thorough inspection was truly incredible! When we called other roofing companies we were surprised how most of them didn't even take the time to inspect our roof. 1907 put in the extra time to provide helpful insight to what was really going on and what the next steps should be. They helped us get through the insurance claim process with ease and no stress! Great company! We will definitely recommend 1907 Roofing to all of our friends and family members who need help with their roofing project!"

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Structural engineers can perform various inspections on different structures in your home. These inspections usually include a report detailing the engineer’s findings and recommendations for repairs so you can determine your next course of action for repairs, replacements, or new builds. Some of the most common structural engineering reports include:

  • Full home inspection: $350–$1,000

  • Foundation: $300–$800

  • Load-bearing walls: $300–$1,000

  • Roof: $150–$600

  • Chimney: $200–$500

While the air inside your home should have some moisture—the ideal humidity level is between 30% and 50%—too much moisture can lead to issues. Some ways to tell if there’s too much moisture in your home include condensation inside your windows, mildew growth in the bathroom or mold on surfaces, peeling paint, or an uptick in allergy symptoms.

It can be safe to buy or live in a house with knob and tube (K&T) wiring, but only if the system is in good condition, functional, and has been thoroughly inspected and approved by a licensed electrician. Never purchase a home with K&T wiring without getting a professional electrical inspection first.

Key considerations include:

  • Safety and Condition: An inspector will verify that the wiring is safe and has not deteriorated. Over time, the insulation can wear away, leaving exposed wires that pose a significant fire or shock hazard.

  • System Capacity: The electrical service should be at least 60 amps. However, even at this capacity, K&T systems often struggle to handle the demands of modern appliances and electronics.

  • Lack of Grounding: Knob and tube wiring is an ungrounded system, which is a safety concern for many modern devices.

  • Ongoing Maintenance: If you live in a home with K&T wiring, it's recommended to have it inspected by an electrician every one to two years to ensure it remains in safe working order.

Ultimately, any inspection or modification of a knob and tube system should always be performed by a certified professional.

Asbestos is commonly found in certain older homes, depending on the time period in which they were built. Asbestos use in home construction began in the 1920s and peaked after World War II before being limited by legislation in the ’70s, so a house constructed in 1880 is unlikely to contain asbestos, while one built in 1950 is much more likely to. Research a home’s history to determine the time period when it was built and any renovations made since.

In theory, a regular home inspection and a mobile home inspection accomplish the same things. They ensure there are no issues with the foundation, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, roof, siding, doors, windows, and more. In practice, though, the inspections can differ based on the layout, the type of foundation, and how easily accessible different parts of the home are. Mobile home inspections tend to take a bit longer because it’s more challenging to access home systems, especially if the mobile home doesn’t have an attic or crawl space.
