"These guys are a bloody joke! I wish my mum had told me who they were thinking of using before they EVER hired these guys! They over charged them by double billing them and then to top everything off, the destroyed a window sill, counter tops were not cut correctly leaving gaps between the drywall, the back splash and the countertop, itself. Did not finish the job either. They were supposed to have someone out on Monday to finish the job they started but when my mum contacted the guy who had done some of the work, he told her that he had been let go because the company had closed their doors. So, the job was finished and my mum had already paid them for the entire job. They damaged wood work along the hallway and kitchen entrance, the electrical sockets were not cut out correctly. Instead of doing things right, they Jerry-rigged them! Now, tomget the job finished and repairs to things the cracked up, my parent’s will have to hire a new company. More money down the drain. AVOID THESE GUYS AT ALL COSTS,"

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

You'll need to test your home for radon after installing the mitigation system, then again every two years. If radon remains elevated, contact a licensed radon professional, either the contractor who installed the system or a different one, and have them evaluate the system. They may need to make some changes to improve its effectiveness and performance.

Keeping radon from getting into your home is much better than having to get rid of it once it's already indoors. While there may not be a way to fully prevent radon from getting into your home, there are things you can do to reduce the gas's ability to enter.

Sealing foundation cracks and openings can help keep the gas from seeping inside. Improving air flow, such as by opening windows, can also be helpful. If you're building your home from scratch, talk to your contractor about using radon-resistant construction to keep the gas out.

Radon testing costs around $450 on average, but you could pay between $150 and $800 for testing, depending on a few factors. The size of your house is one of the most significant cost factors, as your radon professional will have to set up additional tests for homes with larger footprints. The type of test can also have an impact on the cost. Finally, some radon testing companies will include a recommended protocol for radon mitigation, while others might charge $50 to $100 extra.

Costs depend on test type, home size, number of testing locations, and whether follow-up testing is required.
