"Excellent, I called on late Friday afternoon and the company was able to squeeze me in late Monday afternoon, Schutz Heating and cooling is very customer focused and professional from the office to the technicians. I was so impressed I scheduled the preventative maintenance for my A/C unit in the spring and pre-paid for the service"

"Excellent service! I had hired this company a couple of years ago and was impressed with them then as I am now. They are the only company I will hire to clean my ducts! I noticed an immediate change in the air quality after they finished cleaning my ducts. They are very professional and thorough. The owner Bill showed me before and after photos. I couldn't believe the difference! The cost is very reasonable and the turn around time from initial call to day of appointment is exceptional. I will definitely call them every year for my air duct cleaning."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

There are a few reasons your AC is running but not cooling your room. Thermostat issues and dust and debris, which can clog your system, are common problems. It could also be a broken component, such as a compressor, blower fan, or evaporator coils. You’ll need to call a pro to diagnose the issue.

If left untreated, a frozen AC unit can lead to costly damage, especially to the compressor and evaporator coils. When ice forms on the evaporator coils, they become brittle and more susceptible to breaking. Plus, a freeze makes your AC system much less efficient, which means it's wasting energy and costing you more in your monthly energy bills.

A one-stage air conditioner only has one setting, while a two-stage air conditioner has a high and low setting. A two-stage air conditioner costs between $500 and $2,500 more than a traditional air conditioner, but it has a longer lifespan and helps to increase energy efficiency. To make this decision, you should consider your energy needs and available budget.

A dirty AC filter can lower the efficiency of your system, so depending on how dirty it was, you may notice a temperature difference when you clean your filter. You can try other solutions if your AC isn’t blowing as cold as it used to. You can call in a local HVAC tech to make sure everything is running correctly, fix your air seal if it’s a window unit, and clean your coils.

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.
