He said that he didn't know Josh personally, but that he had been on a job with him and was impressed with his work. We called 3 contractors and got 3 estimates, of which Josh's was the least by a little. But this isn't what convinced us to hire him for the job. It was his professionalism and willingness to listen to us and meet our needs. When I expressed anxiety about the size of the unit he recommended ( I thought we maybe needed something larger), he took the extra step of asking his supplier to come and assess the job (measure cubic feet, etc.) and offer his opinion on what our house required to be adequately cooled. The supplier agreed with Josh and we hired Josh to do the job. He and his crew of 4 arrived when they said they would (early A.M.) and worked like dogs until the job was done, many hours later, past dark. They were all absolutely professional, hard-working and cleaned up after themselves. The a/c worked perfectly all summer and made the humid coastal summer so much more comfortable. When we had problems with water dripping from the (ceiling) vent opening this winter when the temperature dropped very low, we called Josh and he and his brother came out the next day to check it out. It was condensation in the ducts. Overall, we are happy with Josh Wahl and recommend Independent Mechanical Services. Because of a design and/or execution defect in our foundation (which was undetectable when we bought our house almost 30 years ago because it was completely covered by the deck,) woodchucks had invaded the crawlspace under the room, chewing up the plastic duct work, actually gaining entry into our home by popping off the register covers and running about. Talk about guess who's coming to dinner! In addition to physical invasion by the critters, the fill under the room (which was a very fine, yellow powder) then poured into the shredded ducts, resulting in much dust pouring in from the registers, a tremendous loss of heat and huge heating bills (as you might image this winter in particular.) Gary and his crew approached the problem very logically, something which I was neither skilled enough nor calm enough to do. Step one: Locate and remove the problem. Gary and crew located the point of entry and sealed off all but one woodchuck sized hole. I then went about trapping the critters myself (don't worry, they were live trapped and relocated, not harmed) and when we were satisfied they were all gone, the point of entry was sealed and we moved on to... .Step 2: Replace the now now existent ducts with insulated ducts. The ducts had been stripped to the wires that once held some form of plastic coating in place. Clearly, we needed insulated ducts. Unfortunately, the crawl space was not crawlable; it was far too shallow and the configuration of the ducts was unusual, to say the least. Suffice it to say that as issues presented themselves, Gary and his men went about finding creative and workable ways to solve them every time. Step 3: Return to normal. To me, this is one of the most confounding aspects of any home repair --- the inevitable and unavoidable duisruption that comes with it. Greater Home took every precaution to minimize the dust and inconvenience, kept very close to our hoped for schedule, despite a string of surprises which could NOT have been anticipated, kept me apprised at every step, and cleaned up the place beautifully when finished. I am very much looking forward to our new deck (which, no surprise, Greater Home will also be building,) now that the rain of yellow dust has stopped whenever the heat or AC are in use. Gary Grabowski is a very hands on, available, and knowledgeable contractor and uses skilled and trustworthy folks to help him work his magic. I almost hesitate to recommend him because I really would like to keep him all for myself but, given the speed at which he completes projects, I suppose I can't keep him busy full time indefinitely. Greater Home is my default provider of all things home related and I hope will remain so for many years to come. It went well, considering it's a huge job! It takes time to get to all of them. My ducts have never been cleaned before, so they had a lot of debris to clean out. I can feel the difference clean ducts provide - my sinuses feel better!

"This company is HORRIBLE, do not hire them, they never show up on time, they charge you for services that they had not completed. We had at least 2 to 3 people fired at the job because they broke the equipment and sat in their trucks (which I have on my outdoor camera) and did nothing for a couple of days. After I was told those people were fired, they still came back to my house to do the work. They were supposed to clean our ducts and after a couple of hours of "cleaning" I checked the vents when they were done and nothing was cleaned. We also needed to have our crawl space cleaned and they only cleaned 2 out of 3 areas of the crawl space and told us everything was cleaned, after going into the crawl space we had noticed that one room was not even touched. They dumped the water out of our crawl space right into the driveway which was a category 3, they put a dehumidifier into the crawl space when there was still about a foot of water in it, they never drained the crawl before putting the dehumidifier in. I would never hire this company again."

Air Duct Cleaning questions, answered by experts
No, not all houses have ducts. It would be safe to say, however, that most modern houses do. The reason is that older houses had boilers in the basement that heated from the bottom up and often vents weren’t built into the house. Another reason is that older homes don’t have air conditioning (because it didn’t exist) and use radiators for heating. Since radiators don’t require ductwork, it wasn’t built.
Air duct cleaning costs an average of $270 to $500 , depending on the number of vents and the total length of the ducts in your home. The type of ducts you have also plays a role since flexible ducts are more susceptible to damage and more difficult and time-consuming to clean properly. Expect higher labor costs for difficult-to-access ducts.
Your evaporator coils should be cleaned at least once per year. However, the frequency of cleaning depends on your air conditioning system age and performance. If your system is old, keeps breaking down, or continues to underperform, you should have your evaporator coils cleaned twice per season.
Your home’s location also plays a central role. For example, if you live in climates with a lot of moisture, humidity, wind, dirt, or dust, you’ll likely need to have your coils cleaned more than once yearly.
Yes. Your air supply should be balanced. The return and supply ducts need to maintain that balance, and this only occurs because an equal amount of air should be entering and leaving your HVAC system. Changes in pressure, extreme weather, and blocking vents with furniture or your stuff can make the air supply unbalanced and cause your home to get too cold or hot.
The primary drawback to cleaning air ducts is that you could damage the HVAC system or the ductwork. If you damage a seam or knock a section loose, you could allow heated or cooled air to escape, which costs you money through reduced system efficiency. It can also be a time-consuming process to clean air ducts if you have a large home or complicated ductwork layout.
