Small jobs welcome

"Xtreme Excavation and Grading was fantastic, my sewer pipe was backing up so i ran a camera and come to find out it was packed full with roots and waste, so I googled up some companies and got a couple quotes but the I called and spoke with Brandon (the owner of Xtreme) and him and his guys didn’t waste any time!! He told me the price (which was extremely reasonable nearly half as much as the other 2 places i called) came out the next day and fixed my issue, Very friendly and knowledgeable and they did great work!! I will definitely be keeping them in mind for future needs"

The Plumber arrived on time and was very professional and knowledgeable.  He listened to the issues I was experiencing and quickly isolated the problem.  Only issue was he didn't have a tool to open the access hole (2x4 piece of lumber) in basement that led from sewer to the road.  I didn't have any scrap on hand to help, so he had to go to local hardware store and returned 30 minutes later, adding to the labor costs.  Once started he ran a snake along the sewer line to the road which increased drainage.  He also showed me how to clear slow draining sinks, which will save me time & money in the future, as well as how to drain my hot water tank out of concern for time/labor costs - I will drain the tank on my own time.  Overall the cost was very high, but the quality of service was excellent even factoring in the issue with opening the cover.  Very pleased with the professionalism and speed in isolating the problem, as well as the work performed.  Would use this company in the future.

Saturday: Clogged sewer line which was cleared.... so we thought..Sunday: Sewer line again was clogged, they came out within the hour. This was a no charge call. Upon their arrival I noticed an area in my yard which had standing water. Yep, bigger problems. They helped clear the line again, while I started digging up my sewer line to find the problem. I had dismissed them and kept digging. I brought them back out on Tuesday and they repaired my sewer line and put in a clean-out, outside of the house. Thinking this "might" have fixed the problem, I thanked them and moved forward....The installation of this outside clean-out which cost considerably less than another Plumber, yet I also did most of the digging myself. This also opened up an opportunity to run a camera through and find out why I kept having this backup problem.Next visit, camera wasn't available, but they came out and used a different cutter from outside. This outside location gave us additional reach in the sewer line to make sure it was clear all the way to the city main. The clog was "at" the main, which we were not able to reach previously, because it was over 125'.Long story short, I am very happy with their work. They didn't throw the most expensive thing at me up front, which another plumber did.I am very happy with Drain Works."

"The Crofts were quick to respond to my flooding problem. They diagnosed the issue, replaced the sump pump and helped with other minor plumbing repairs. They were EXTREMELY helpful and went out of their way chase down parts etc... without charging me an arm and a leg (not like what I've experienced with other plumbers). I'll use them on any plumbing needs I have in the future... guaranteed."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

Lansing’s cold winters and clay-rich soils make timing important for septic tank service. Freezing temperatures can cause pipes or tank components to freeze, while spring thaws may oversaturate the drain field. Snow and ice can limit access for service vehicles. Schedule major septic work between late spring and early fall, and have inspections done before the ground freezes to avoid weather-related delays.

Helpful?

As a new homeowner in Lansing, start by locating your septic tank and mapping the drain field. Review the system’s pumping history and arrange service if it’s overdue. Install insulated risers before winter, and schedule a professional inspection to check for issues. Within your first year, test the soil’s drainage, set up a regular maintenance plan, and identify local emergency contacts for peace of mind.

Helpful?

In Lansing, septic tank service can impact your plumbing, well water, and even your basement if issues arise. Watch for slow drains, sewage odors indoors, or damp spots near the foundation—these can signal system conflicts. Because all drains connect to the septic system, problems can spread quickly. Regularly check for leaks and monitor water usage to help prevent widespread issues throughout your home.

Helpful?

For septic tank service in Lansing, keep insulated riser covers, septic-safe toilet paper, and a water usage monitor on hand. Have a flashlight for visual inspections and snow removal tools to access tank lids in winter. Mark your drain field to avoid accidental damage. An emergency kit with portable toilet chemicals and backup power for alarms is especially useful during harsh Lansing winters.

Helpful?

In Lansing, routine septic tank pumping usually takes 2-4 hours, while inspections last about 1-2 hours. Minor repairs, like replacing a baffle or tank lid, may take up to a full day. Drain field repairs can extend over several days, especially with Lansing’s heavy clay soil. Full system installations, including required permits and inspections, may take several weeks, particularly if weather causes delays.
