The toilet was running so a new trap was needed. It got replaced and the repairman was finished within 15 minutes. When he flushed it, the toilet no longer ran. However, when it was used and toilet paper was thrown in the handle had to be held down until the paper disappeared.
I happened to tell my handyman about the problem and that I needed to called Miles plumbing to make it right. He said he would look into it and he replaced the trap. The trap that was put into my toilet was for the newer models where less water is used. I called just to tell them that one trap does not fit all toilets and they need to check out if the toilet used less water.
The owner called me and left a message. He said, "Your handyman does not know what the heck he is talking about. Now your toilet is using more water." He missed the point that even with "his trap" my toilet was using more water because I had to hold the handle down for more water in order for the waste to go down and I had to explain this to every guest who needed to use the bathroom. I did not appreciate the tone of his voice.
Miles plumbing did the original plumbing for my house and I have used them for over 40 years in this house, despite the fact that they are a little more expensive than the other plumbing concerns in the area. Now, I will not use them again.
"The trap on a toilet cannot be replaced, it's an integral part of the fixture. What [member name removed] is talking about is a flapper. The flapper that was installed on this toilet by the plumber was the correct flapper. By installing a flapper for a 3.5 gallon flush toilet, you're wasting a gallon and a half of water which, is on its own, uses as much water as holding down a handle. If [member name removed] had called us, we would have gone back and addressed the problem. It may have simply been that a chain adjustment was necessary. There would have been no charge to come back out to her home."
Miles Plumbing provided a very competitive price including the largest size Navien tankless water heater and adding a second 3/4 inch gas line for the water heater. The day after receiving their quote and scheduling the installation, our tank water heater stopped working. Miles moved up their installation date to the next day and had the job completed that day with a crew of four plumbers. They were extremely friendly, professional and took great care not to soil any part of the house while doing the installation. During the installation, Mr. Malone told me that the pressure switch on our water pressure tank (we have a well) needed to be larger to make the water heater work right. He also installed the larger switch for only the cost of the switch. Now in addition to a new water heater, we have much better water pressure in our house.
We love the new water heater and the peace of mind of not having to worry any more about a leaking or non-functioning water heater. We have used several different plumbers over the years and Mike Malone and his crew are by far the best.
He came over a bit before 4:30, and got to work. I had been told by a neighbor that I may need to switch out my piping/that it was corroding on the inside. Jim (repairman) said no, that my stuff was fine, and that he wasn't going to tell me I needed something I didn't. He put on the new valve my husband had bought and sottered it on (spelling, I know...). That still leaked. He walked me through what he had done, and what he recommended. Quickly installed the new joint (stated the valve didn't do anything anyway - which my husband and I thought, too).
There was still no water pressure in the bathroom (the initial problem). So he took a look - and there was a bunch of sediment in the pipe. He explained this was normal, and that it was easy to clean out. Asked if we would like to clean it out or would like to have him? I asked how long it would take - 15 minutes - and said 'go ahead!' Turns out there was also the wrong type of piece at the end of that pipe (clearly different from the cold water which was working fine). He switched that while he was cleaning out the pipe - and did it all in less than 15 minutes.
Because we had a leak in the basement, we had a big steralite container below the pipe to catch the drips. He apparently dropped a piece of pipe, breaking it, and offered to either 1. replace it or 2. take 15 minutes off his time. I took the 15 minutes. It was an old one anyway....Anyway, ended up charging me 1.5 hours for easily 2hours worth of work (and 20 if I let my husband finish the job).
You are given an invioce, and then billed later. Makes it easier in case of emergencies...don't always have the money THAT day - but will in a few after payday (which was our case).
