Shane did an fantastic job.
Tore out tub, and all the tile that covered every wall. Replaced sink and toilet. Placed new shower unit and added shelving, that I requested. Replaced medicine cabinet and updated electrical and lighting fixtures. New flooring and paint. Added a ceiling vent/fan and repaired/replaced ceiling. Always left a clean area, at the end of the day.
Easy to communicate with, answering all questions I had. Shane did all the work himself, since it was a small bathroom. I will definitely use his services again it the need arises. Trustworthy.

We had a contractor who recommended McDaniels, so McDaniels also had our price range for the project. This is where is gets rocky. The tile we picked out was way over our budget, okay so we pick something else. No problem, they come and measure and plan for the layout. It then takes them over 2 months to get the tile in. When the tile arrives our contractor brings it to our house. We have a one bathroom home, the builders had to tear it out, we expected to be in a hotel for 7-10 days per the builders estimate. When we arrived home the first night after demolition, before instalation, we find that it is the wrong tile. McDaniels not only ordered the wrong tile, when it arrived they did not check to make sure the correct tile had arrived, before calling our contractors. They had the right information written down, but somehow managed to not only order it wrong, but not bother to check the order upon arrival. I called McDaniels immediately and had to wait almost a full day before a call was returned. When they finally called back they were not apologetic or initially helpful. I was told it was the distributor's error, instead of them taking responsibility they passed the blame. When asked to reorder it, I was told it would take at least 3 weeks. Our contractors called them and told them this was not an option and a rush needed to be put on it. McDaniels tried to eek their way out of any responsibility. We finally received our tile about 2 weeks later, still not the color we picked out, but similar enough. Our remodel is to help sell our house. When our contractor asked about our shower door we told them we had picked it out and ordered it with the tile. Jenna at McDaniels helped us with this as well. As it turns out, McDaniels never ordered the shower door and when we went back to order it, we found out it too was over our budget. She had all of this information at the very beginning, we were sent there with a budget for tile and a shower door. Not only were both over the limit, we were only told of the tile being to much. The orders that were placed were wrong, their was no quality check, and NO responsibility taken by McDaniels. Even when the errors we obviously theirs, they tried to push the blame to someone else and were not willing to accept responsibility, apologize or try to help correct the problems in a timely manner. A simple I'm sorry, or we screwed up, would have helped. Needless to say we ended up in our hotel (3 adults, a 3 yr old and a 13 month old) for over 3 weeks, because someone didn't take the time to check an order. My experience with Cassio of Platinum Refinishing was very unprofessional and unsatisfactory. I was unhappy with the work he did and wrote him a factual email with a request to call me to discuss resolving the problem. He failed to call, and instead replied with an angry and accusatory email, and told me to contact another company. This is an unacceptable way for any business to treat a customer, regardless of the disagreement.
My complaint is that Cassio failed to provide me with color samples, as I had requested, before painting the tile surrounding my bathtub. I first contacted Cassio by phone and when he told me his available colors, I said that I was interested in either Bone or Bisque, and would like to see samples. He made an appointment to do the work and said he would bring along color samples.
When Cassio arrived to do the work, he had no color samples with him. I said I was interested in Bisque, but he said could not show me anything in Bisque. He said it was his opinion was that the tile should be white. A reason he gave was that "99% of his customers have their tub and surrounding tile the same color". He said it would match the white toilet. Later I found these to both be false statements - all of the pictures from Cassio's link on Angie's list show bathtubs and the surrounding tile in different colors, and Platinum's white is different from the white of my new toilet.
I had already scheduled other bathroom work for the following weeks, including new floor tile, new vanity and sink, and new toilet, so I needed to get the tub tile glaze completed. Based on Cassio's recommendation I agreed to have the glaze done in white.
Immediately after the work was done, I realized that the white glaze was not what I wanted. It was a very glossy bright white, different from American Standard bathroom fixture white or Home Depot's "Snow White" ceramic tile white (which Cassio had claimed was identical). I called Cassio and asked him to bring the color samples that he had failed to bring the first time. When I saw the color samples, I said that I liked the Bisque color. However, Cassio could do no work that day since he had another appointment.
After the other bathroom remodeling work was completed, I emailed Cassio and said I would like to have the tile surround redone in Bisque. I was willing to pay him for this additional work, and wanted to discuss this with him. Instead of responding in a professional manner, Cassio was very rude and told me to "get lost". I am now asking Angie's List to show some professionalism in helping to resolve this problem.
Additionally, I believe that I was overcharged for the amount of work that was done. Cassio was at my condo for less than one and a half hour, for which I paid $275. That's a rate of about $200 an hour, which is excessive for that type of work. I am a retired Ph.D. professional, and I never made $200 an hour in my career.

They both looked at the bathroom while talking about what needed to be done. Shane asked me if I wanted tile around the bathtub instead of a surround. I said it would depend on the cost. I asked if he could give me an estimate with the cost of a tub surround and with tile. Shane asked me if I wanted tile on the floor. I said that I had bought a new vinyl floor from American Flooring, which is downstairs. Shane was the one that had recommended this company when both he and Gregg looked at my bathroom 2 years ago and were supposed to fix it then. Shane asked if I wanted a new vanity. Again, I told him to tell me in his estimate how much it would cost. I told him that I wanted new wood floor trim and a new ceiling fan. I would wait for his estimate before even considering a new medicine cabinet and bathroom light. He said okay. Gregg was talking about how I might have to buy a new tub because my tub could crack when he tries to pull it out to fix the plumbing and have Shane replace the floor. We went downstairs to look at the bathroom plumbing and flooring – or lack thereof. Gregg said that the City didn’t slant the pipes downward so that is why I’m having problems with water draining from the tub and sink. He showed me how much piping he would have to replace. I told Shane that I wanted a complete new floor – no patchwork – even under the tub, which is something the City didn’t do. Shane wanted to see the vinyl flooring I bought. It was still in its rapper, rolled up against the wall on top of some plastic containers. He seemed satisfied. Gregg looked at the toilet still in the box that I bought 2 years ago when they were supposed to fix everything. He didn’t like it, of course, and suggested that I take it back and buy an insulated one due to tank sweating. I said that instead I would like a hot water line going into my toilet to stop the sweating. Gregg was against that and said that an insulated toilet would be better, should last a very long time, and will have a life time warranty. I wonder how I would collect on the warranty. Gregg thought about it and then said that he has an insulated toilet (what a coincidence) and would trade me. Then Shane asked me when I would want the work done. I was surprised because I wasn’t sure what projects he and Gregg were currently working on and how I would fit into their schedule. I thought they would tell me when THEY were available. I hesitated and then decided to give them a month to figure out their estimates. After receiving them I would know what new bathroom fixtures I could afford to buy and have time to buy them. Also because the date is far enough out I wouldn’t be interfering with their other projects. Shane, Gregg and I agreed they would start work on Monday, July 9th. June 26 I emailed Shane: and quot; How’s it going? I was wondering what you and Gregg came up with for an estimate of my bathroom remodel? I thought I would ask now since you two will probably be on vacation next week. Thanks for your time.and quot; Shane never responded. July 9 Today is supposed to be Shane and Gregg’s first day of work on my bathroom remodel. I called Gregg since I didn't have my address book. I said that I haven't received their estimates. I've emailed Shane but he hasn't responded - he must be busy. Gregg said they were waiting for me to buy the vanity and tub (?) and get back with them. It all depends on what you and Shane will charge for labor.and quot; Previously, Gregg mentioned buying a tub but only if they crack my current one when taking it out. Why would I buy a tub if I don't need it? Gregg said he would work up a quick estimate for me and will talk to Shane this Wednesday. I said fine. I let him know that my toilet broke. Gregg was surprised and said he would call Shane today and get back with me. I hope so. Gregg Hayes just called me and first gave me a quote of $3,400! I thought and quot;Oh no, I won't have money for Shane's work!and quot; But when he mentioned that the high cost was due to being in East Lansing, I mentioned that I lived in Lansing - not East Lansing. He looked at his paperwork and apologized. He was looking at the wrong house. He said his charge goes by the homeowners taxes and East Lansing taxes are very high. Gregg then gave me a quote of $1,350! Yeah? Two years ago both their estimates totaled $1,800. July 10 I checked my emails and Shane STILL hasn't responded to my request to email me his estimate! This is after Gregg told him that I didn't have one and this is what everyone is waiting on. What is wrong with him? If he didn't have my estimate done, he should have worked on it last evening so it would be ready today. I'm really wondering about his work ethics. How can I hire him if I don't know how much he's going to charge? July 11 I called Shane at 4:19 and got his voice mail. Clint and Mark did an excellent job! My old tub (1946) previously had a "DIY" finish that was applied years ago on both tub and tile surround and the finish was peeling and worn. They worked extremely hard and rigorously to strip the old finish and restore to the original on both, with new...

"I hired JLM Home Solutions to install all my interior doors and closets including frames/casings in my upstairs. Jason was a horrible person the entire time I hired him. He acted like a nice person just to get hired. I regret hiring him. Unfortunately I had signed a contract by the time I found out he was no good. Every time I brought up something that was not done right, he’d yell and raise his voice at me. He’s very rude and unprofessional with the worst customer service. He was rude on text, rude on phone and rude in person. Jared, I guess one of his employees was a great person, very polite and did an amazing job. He worked on the project in a professional manner. He didn’t come back though to finish the project because Jason sent another person instead, David, who did an awful job. Jason didn’t want to hear it that David’s work was not the greatest. I had to put a stop payment after I found out one of the closet doors wasn’t installed right and other things that were wrong. Jason got so upset that he had to come back to fix the problem after I told him I didn’t want David. Jason came to my house but failed to fix the problem still. Instead he made me feel threatened in my own house. He was all in my face yelling at me saying nothing was wrong with the closet. Even my little dog was scared. I had to call my daughter and son to come over because I was so terrified that he was maybe going to hurt me. I stayed on the phone all the time while he was there so someone could hear his abusive behavior. That day after Jason left, I had to get a second opinion on the closet. Another contractor couldn’t believe the way the closet was installed and for Jason to insist it was okay. He left the old frame on and didn’t want to here when I mentioned it. I’ll have this closet removed and a new one with new frame installed the right way. I had to insist Jason deduct some money for that closet from the balance owed to him. A couple of days later, I noticed my kitchen door they installed still had cracks on the inside frame close to the lock. I had mentioned that to him. I texted him to let him know with pictures showing the cracks. Now Jason won’t respond to my text, email or phone. I asked him to send one of his guys to fix the door. Not him because I don’t want him around me. I’ve tried everything to get to him. I know he’s ignoring me. I paid him so much money for this project. If I don’t hear from him I’ll have no choice but to file small claims. He cannot leave my door like that after I paid him so much money and thinks he can just get away with it. If there was an option of zero stars, that’s what I’d have given JLM."

FAQs for bathroom tile repair projects in Lansing, MI
The average cost of installing tile is around $2,000, ranging between $400 and $6,500, depending on the type of tile, square footage of tile, and whether or not your tiling contractor performs site preparation, like removing old tile. On average, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 per square foot, largely depending on the type and quality of the tiles you choose. For example, ceramic and travertine tile cost about $1 per square foot, but luxury tile options like marble cost up to $350 per square foot, not including labor.
The cost of home remodeling is $50,000 for the average homeowner. However, this cost can range anywhere from $3,000 for a small projectto $170,000 for a whole home remodel. Factors like project size, location, and room type all affect your overall cost. For example, bedroom remodeling costs are one of the least expensive projects, costing about $1,500 to $5,500 per bedroom. However, a kitchen remodel has a significant cost range, totaling anywhere from $14,500 to over $70,000.
Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.
The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
