Smithwright Home Improvement is a general contracting company providing a broad range of home improvement and home repair services in the Suburban Maryland area. I am a company of one and use subcontractors only when absolutely necessary. 99% of the work I take on is performed by me. Smithwright Home Improvement is licensed with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission since 2004 under license# 89597. I've done mostly flat-fee work under contract with the home owner. Small projects, or handyman related work, bills out at $80/hour with a 3 hour minimum. Angie's List customers receive a 10% discount off labor charges that invoice over $500.00. Discounts do not apply to materials cost which are in addition to labor charges. I do not add any additional costs to materials. You pay what I pay. My business, up to now, has grown strictly through referrals from satisfied customers. In the 20 years since I started this business, I have served hundreds of home owners in this area doing everything from simple drywall work to building large room additions and decks. "Allen’s team is awesome. He is a perfectionist. He can be trusted to tell you the truth about what needs to be done. The outside of the cabin needed wood replacement, painting, new gutters, screening in a porch and replacing/adding steps. Inside needed new flooring and electrical. And he will be back in the future for more. He previously has done at least three projects on our townhouse: new bathroom, basement re-do, new vanities on other bathrooms, flooring, etc. he is the only cabin contractor we will use. "Willis began the job when they said they would and they finished in the time frame they estimated.  The price they quoted in their proposal was accurate.  There were no surprise extra charges. They kept us informed about who was coming and when, and what they would be doing.  They cleaned up before they finished.  All of their employees and subcontractors were courteous and helpful. They quickly corrected any minor things that got missed. 
This project involved repairing water damage, and they made sure that everything was dry before they began. They made adjustments in the work plan when they discovered additional water damage under the kitchen cabinets that had not been adequately dried by restoration company.  They planned the kitchen repairs in a way that it minimized our loss of kitchen use.
They were very helpful in explaining our flooring options. They helped us to select a new flooring color when it turned out that the color we previously had was no longer available.
We have used Willis Builders for other jobs as well, including a major home addition and a new bathroom.  They did a great job on these projects, and have made warranty fixes as needed. They are first people we call when we need other work done.  We highly recommend Willis Builders.
