"Very well! Ronal tiled the the bathtub/shower walls and the bathroom floor, as well as the backsplash in the kitchen. He is very professional, conscientious, meticulous, and worked with us to achieve our desired outcome. We were very pleased with the results."

"John E. Ruth company remodeled our basement bathroom several years ago (about $7000). They completely gutted the old bathroom and rebuilt it from scratch. The work they did was first-rate and the bathroom still looks beautiful.
After superstorm Sandy, we had them come back and install a water-powered backup sump pump as well as cleaning and lining our old sump and replacing the old electric pump. The backup has worked flawlessly on the few occasions when the power was out and it came on.
However, last week, there was a problem with the pipe leading from the main sump pump. Over time and with much use, the coupling worked itself loose. Fortunately, John E. Ruth sent out a plumber, Charlie, within an hour after I called them and he came up with a permanent fix to the problem.
The supervisor (Jim Arnold) agreed that we did not owe them anything for this repair because they had originally installed the backup pump.
Overall, we have been very pleased with the work they have performed and they stood behind their work when it counted. Also, they responded very quickly to our emergency. We would definitely use John E. Ruth plumbing again.

"This group is impeccable, perfect work re-doing a botched first job from a horrible, licensed contractor. Many uncharged extra fixes and advice. The unique tile design of the bathroom shower surpassed my own vision. Spectacular!"

"The crew arrived early and also removed and replaced a dryer vent as well as checking the siding for the entire house. Ensured all siding was tight; then caulked all seams and joints. Highly recommend this company as it is the second time I have used them."

"JD Michael Construction is great. This is now the third or fourth project they have worked on for us. Consultation was easy and Joe is very responsive and easy to work with. We had some issues with the door being delivered broken and Joe took care of the work to get it replaced. Installation was smooth and took a single day like Joe stated. Installers were friendly and professional. JD Michael Construction is my go to for any home projects larger than i want to handle."

"Dave and his entire team worked seamlessly with our family during this project. Always clear and concise communications, contracting and change orders. We worked with major construction team, the inside construction team, electricians, plumbers, painters, tile setter, and design and project managers. Each was always courteous and cleaned up the site at the end of the day. Teams showed up on time as occasionally worked late to complete a phase of the project so that the next team could start in the morning. As with any renovation of an old home problems arose. For each, options were offered for remediation or repair; after discussing with Dave and team we were all in agreement on the next steps. While these changes did increase the cost of the project we did not exceed our contingency plan. During the project there was an issue with a tile that needed to replaced and the tile team kept reworking the issue to make sure that the final product met their own high standards."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Installing a walk-in bathtub can be worth it if it improves the user's safety and independence. However, because walk-in tubs require a large investment, not every homeowner has the means or desire to install one. As an alternative, some homeowners prefer to install a walk-in shower and transfer bench instead. Walk-in showers cost between $1,150 and $8,000, making them far more budget-friendly in comparison.

A drop-in tub is just one of the types of bathtubs available. Depending on your needs and the space available, you can consider an alcove tub for quick installation, a whirlpool tub for added relaxation, a freestanding tub for a statement piece, or a corner tub to take advantage of the space in a larger bathroom.

A powder room cannot have a bath. If it had a bath, it would likely be considered a three-quarter bath or full bath, depending on the other features. You might hear the term “powder room” used to describe a bathroom used by guests, but it wouldn’t technically be a powder room. However, powder rooms or half baths are ideal for guests because they can use it without entering the more private areas of the home.

The time it takes to install a bathtub depends on the type of tub, the condition of the existing plumbing, and the installation's complexity. A new bathtub can be installed in four to eight hours. However, this can take longer if any additional plumbing work or bathroom modifications are needed.

Whether converting a tub to a shower is worth it depends on your personal circumstances and priorities. For many, a shower is a safer option that reduces the risk of slip-and-fall accidents, making it a valuable upgrade. It can also be a worthwhile conversion if a shower is more practical for your lifestyle and you rarely use the tub. However, there are potential downsides to consider. The cost, which can range from $1,200 to $8,000, can be a deterrent. Additionally, if you have young children, a bathtub is often easier for bathing them. Finally, removing the only bathtub in a home can potentially lower its resale value in the eyes of some buyers.
