"I initially hired Penate Tile & Home Improvement to install floor tile, but after they did such nice work and were so professional I decided to ask them to do a larger job replacing windows, framing out window wells, and replacing and extending stairs. They did an equally fine job on this project as well."

"Juan and Oscar worked relentlessly for an entire day to replace my bathtub with a new shower. They were very professional, polite, on time, and gave me updates throughout the day. They also kept the house very clean. I would love to hire them again for future renovations and highly recommend you do so too!"

"Walter, his son Brandon, and the entire crew were professional, personable, and skilled. Walter was very accomodating while still being able to point out why specific ideas weren't feasible and offered suggestions that enhanced our original vision! I've already met with Walter again to discuss my next project with him. I don't know that I'll look to anyone else from now on. Much like my Plumbing/Heating team, once I have a good relationship with a contractor, I tend not to let go. My basement went from a child's play place, last updated in 2004. Walter and his team helped create an 'adult' basement, complete with a handicap-accessible full bathroom for my husband. The team kept the project on schedule, coming in on a Sunday to finish necessary prep work before the tiler came in the following morning. Walter checked in almost every morning, checking in before moving to another project. I appreciate that in the General Contractor, to address concerns in real-time. He included a few quick fixes for me - mounting new air return vents and replacing the kitchen faucet, which I am grateful to have finally completed! Eventually, Walter's Home Improvement will recreate every level of my house. I've been here 27 years, and have found a business that can help me create my dream house (read: NO KIDS!!) p.s. The crew also adopted my kitten, Nyla, as their mascot, and she knew when they were here, and we knew when she got to them - we'd hear a collective 'NYLA!!' from the basement!"

"This group is impeccable, perfect work re-doing a botched first job from a horrible, licensed contractor. Many uncharged extra fixes and advice. The unique tile design of the bathroom shower surpassed my own vision. Spectacular!"

"Dave and his entire team worked seamlessly with our family during this project. Always clear and concise communications, contracting and change orders. We worked with major construction team, the inside construction team, electricians, plumbers, painters, tile setter, and design and project managers. Each was always courteous and cleaned up the site at the end of the day. Teams showed up on time as occasionally worked late to complete a phase of the project so that the next team could start in the morning. As with any renovation of an old home problems arose. For each, options were offered for remediation or repair; after discussing with Dave and team we were all in agreement on the next steps. While these changes did increase the cost of the project we did not exceed our contingency plan. During the project there was an issue with a tile that needed to replaced and the tile team kept reworking the issue to make sure that the final product met their own high standards."

"Perfect!  I had already spent time trying to find someone to replace the large porch columns and was not happy with responses from 2 companies.  I joined Angie's list, read reviews and contacted Perryhall Remodeling.  The same day, Gary SR called and set up appointment for two days later to come out for a cost estimate.  Gary arrived on time along with his brother.  They were quick but very thorough.  When looking at the porch columns, he also pointed out where wood was rotting and needed to be replaced.  They also saw that some of our problems could have been from a misaligned gutter.
Later that night, Gary SR sent a contract via email which included all we had discussed and the price.  His quote was the same as one I had received from another contractor, but included so much more than just "replace two porch columns" for the same price.
Day of work (about 10 days later since columns had to be ordered), Gary SR arrived here by 7am to meet with his crew and look over the project.    I went off to work and when I came home, all was completed.  Front of porch and garage looked great,  Only indication they were here was the cans of paint neatly stacked in the corner of the porch.
We are very excited to find a company who has been in business for so long, are friendly and professional to work with, and have a wide range of services they can provide.
Thank you Gary!

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

If your bathtub is in overall good shape with minor scratches, discoloration, or just general wear and tear, it's best (and less expensive) to refinish it.

If your tub has large cracks, is leaking, or is otherwise severely damaged, we recommend replacing it with a new bathtub. Refinishing a bathtub can only fix superficial problems, so these issues will still be present or reappear after a refinishing.

Of the two most common and affordable bathtub materials, acrylic is notably better. Though fiberglass is cheaper, it is also more prone to scratching, chipping, fading, and cracking. Acrylic holds up better to wear and tear, cleaning, and sun exposure; the slight cost increase is usually worth the increased longevity.

The most common type of tub is the alcove; most bathtubs are shower and tub combinations. Many suburban homes feature these as the default option because they allow the flexibility for users to take a bath or a shower—a notable benefit for those with pets and young kids.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

Plan your budget, storage needs, accessibility features, and design aesthetics before starting.
