Wood Flooring Repair or Partial Replacement

I had previously hired Juan to replace my kitchen floor and he did a beautiful job, so when we were having trouble with our outlets of course I called him. He showed up on time and was as professional as always. He resolved our outlet problem and when I plugged in an iron and it put the entire second floor of our house in darkness, he came back on a SATURDAY with Derek and they diagnosed and fixed the problem in a couple of hours. This guy is the real deal. He gives discounts the more you use him, he's licensed, insured and bonded and always makes sure that you're happy with his work, and takes the time to explain to you what's going on. 10/10 recommend.

Mr. Fargas is a cold, calculating, coward contractor. Is this the type of person you want in or around your home or family? As a homeowner, you have the right to ask Mr. Fargas the following question; Why is he scared to step inside the court room?
Response from Juan's Home Improvement, LLC
"It?s extremely sad for someone who I?ve worked with for over 5 years to make an attempt to ruin my reputation and character as a business owner and contractor. Nicole had 30 days, in which I gave her, because she could not afford to pay for work needed to be done on her home before the winter months were approaching. It took me just a few days to start and finish this project in question. So I had to wait almost 30 for my balance and her complete satisfaction. Nicole did not have to pay me if she was at all dissatisfied with my work. I have put in a clause in all my estimates and contracts. That the balance is due upon completion and satisfaction of my client. I would love to meet her face to face in court so I can see the judge laugh in her face and the rest of the court room. Ms. Nicole [Consumer Name Removed] is a very bitter and lonely woman who needs attention. If that means to make an attempt to ruin someone after 5 years of service to her and her home, she will do it. By the way, I never been served any papers to come to court and satisfy any claim against me. OWNER / OPERATOR Juan?s Home Improvement LLC"

Wood Flooring - Install or Completely Replace
$2,200
Juan was terrific from beginning to end. He was prompt, showed up on time, met us at Floor and Decor to pick out new flooring that he was able to match perfectly, worked a day straight through to get the job done and came back the next day to make sure everything was fine and I was happy, and I am! He replaced our tile floor with LVT and did a wonderful job. His quotes were right in line with others and he gave us a discount on the flooring. He also cut the door to the basement so that it now fits perfectly. He takes great pride in his work and is very knowledgeable. We would definitely work with him again.

We wanted to update our kitchen for a more modern look and Juan delivered during each step of the process. From the floor, the new lighting install, and down to the backsplash, Juan consulted us for our options and even provided cost saving alternatives to our initial choices. Would recommend for larger projects. Is receptive to changes and can be contacted for issues after all is said and done.

Stop dont use him my girl friend had Juan remodel her bathroom which is only 5 feet by 10 feet. Her whole dream was to have a beautiful bathroom to relax in after work and enjoy. My girlfriend is a nurse who works 12-13 hour days and just wanted a peaceful spa to relax in after work. None of this happened. Instead she steps into a destroyed home. The staircase is torn torn and she does not use her new tub because it was cracked by the installer Juan. We spent a few days renting a dumpster and then gutted the bathroom and made it ready for construction. Juan did work for my friend in the past and agreed to finish the rest of the bathroom . Juan had very little left to do with the bathroom after putting in the tub. All he had to do was plum and straighten the 10 ft wall and drop the ceiling 3 1/2 inches to level and put insulation in ceiling. The result was NOT anything like the contract my friend has or the finished product. I was HORRIFIED to see the final results after this bathroom was supposed to be finished. Tiles not level and not equally spaced grout falling out and the tub not level. Wood door trim cracked and split. the contractor did not do floor as specified in contract only half the floor tiled Tried to cheat on insulation in ceiling . Reused old drywall In ceiling that had holes in he patched . Juan didnt know the difference of horizontal or vertical on tile. Tub not plum. Water runs on floor. Would not water proof walls before installing the tile. Bathtub coves not plum or level the tile finish of coves ( penny tile) one horizontal the other vertical. Told me to live with it. Flooded the bathroom floor while hooking up tub now have water damage in kitchen ceiling. Never took The bow out of the only long wall. Ten ft. The list goes on and on says he has a year warranty. Wont even return or calls text. Its a small bathroom 5 by 10. 5 weeks to do. He doesnt know how to read a level or square. Took him 8 hour to try to level the tub and didnt even get it right. The man has no skills or CRAFTSMANSHIP to any of his work. Payed him $10,000.00 for a amateur job Last but not least Juan cut down her staircase with a saws-all and that will cost another $3000 and broke her new $3000 walk in tub. He did not do a final walk through to make sure she was happy with the finished job. She was not at all satisfied at all but paid him with out a walk through. . He knew he damaged the gel coat of the tub. Then intimidated her to pay him. The contract stated final payment do upon customers satisfaction. And of course she was not. For weeks did not answer phone calls, text or certified letters. My girlfriend is the Victim of a hit and run Maryland licensed contractor license # is 102MHIC NO102917. Read his Better business bureau rating is D. Do not use him.......... Project went from a $15,000.00 project to a $36,000.00 project and a least another year of turmoil. Thank you Juan for this stressful time and project.............. .

"This is a sad attempt to discredit a contractor with over 30 years of experience in the construction field. Whoever decides to get on this site will see my constant approval rating by other satisfied and more than happy previous clients. I had an issue with the so-called boyfriend from the start of this endeavor. He started this project with the demolition, framing the walls, running all the plumbing pipes, all of the electrical, and installing the sub-flooring. He attempted to install the jacuzzi tub by going through the parts and materials but was not able to do so. Not to mention, this particular so-call boyfriend is not licensed to do any of the work he performed. That is why I was called to help his girlfriend. The client I have been working with at least 3 to 4 years off and on. Any contractor knows how hard it is to go behind someone and make things right. My client house was built in the 1800s. This project was extremely difficult dealing with a jealous boyfriend and he was always in her ear making constant changes in the contract, creating change orders, and trying every attempt to keep me off schedule and changing her mind every other day. I have a contract with an addendum/ change order to remove her staircase to get an oversize tub up to her staircase into her bathroom. The change order was design to re-install the staircase, but as with everything else, she changed her mind the very next day and wanted an iron staircase instead. Which means I had to hire an iron railing sub-contractor. Then again changed her mind and told me she wanted a new wood staircase. So, I gave her money back to offset re-installing the old staircase and charging her for removal only. This is just one of many issues I had to deal with. At the very end of this ordeal my client the only issue was the wall tile. In which she told me that because of the age of her home, she understood. The fact that she was not completely satisfied I took a loss in my balance and found her a licensed tile contractor to repair the issue. In closing, this was the only issue my client had until her jealous boyfriend got involved and created more issues, lies, and forced her to be on paged with him. As you notice from the statement above, it was him, not her writing this review. She began being untruthful along with him creating two wrongdoers trying to discredit me, and get more money out of this situation and defamation of my character."

Short Review: Juan completed a small job for me: removal of a 140sqf plaster ceiling, installation of a new drywall ceiling, installation of recessed lighting, finish work and painting. Overall, Juan is a really good, honest guy and he did great work with the drywall and electrical. Improvements in communication and cleaning of the worksite would make him a 5/5. I would hire again if he treated the space a bit more delicately to prevent damage and cleaned up significantly better at the end. Full Review: Pros: Juan has attention to detail to his work; the end result was very professional. He underestimated how much time the project would take by a couple days, however he worked over the weekend during his family time to make sure the project was done on my timeline. Juan arrived pretty early on most days (e.g. 7:00a.m.) and put in full days to get the project done. Cons: I was out of town for 3/6 days of the project. There were a couple issues with the installation that I would have appreciated a phone call to discuss before moving forward. Although he did arrive early, he was sometimes off +/- a couple hours for his arrival. This is only an issue if you are planning to meet him, which wasnâ t absolutely necessary on my part. Cleaning was a bit of an issue. Juan did wipe things down as he went, but the level of cleanliness at the end was not great in my opinion. He put plastic over the door leading to other rooms, however a significant amount of dust made it throughout the other rooms. I had to clean this a couple times. In the outdoor space it appears he poured a couple buckets of spackle and water in the yard, areas that had just been seeded with grass and I had asked him to be careful of. To be fair, my yard is small, but still the mess could have been avoided. The site was roughly wiped down and the floor was mopped, however I still had significant piles of dust on most horizontal surfaces, walls were scuffed up and had multiple new hand prints, and the wood floor had multiple scratches and depressions from moving the fridge around. The fridge is heavy, but I have moved it in and out of that room a couple times with no damage to the floor so I know it can be done. A little more grace would have been appreciated so I didnâ t have to repair a damaged floor. He purchased some stain markers for me to help repair, but this wonâ t remove the long dented scratches. Overall, I had to spend 3 hours cleaning up excess dust, wiping down walls, and repainting (rolling out) the walls to cover up new marks (and old marks) on the walls. I think most of this could have been avoided.

Deck or Porch - Build or Replace
He left screws exposed on top of the deck and on the railing;, but the worst thing he did was build the steps to the deck upside down. Water flows back toward the deck! If you walk up the steps you fall forward. If you walk down the steps you fall backwards. He said it was built correctly. I should have never accepted this kind of craftsmanship. Also get receipts for any materials purchased. In fact, you'd be better off buying the materials yourself and hiring someone to build your deck rather than give them a check and letting them go to Home Depot to buy materials and then keep what's left to use on another one of their jobs.
Response from Juan's Home Improvement, LLC
"This customer's waited 3 years to say something negative about how I build his deck. Before I received my final payment from any customer. I always put in my contracts, that the customer needs to satisfied with the final results before final payment is due. A deck built out of lumber needs to be maintained by the customer or builder to keep it's original look. Ex. Seal and stain every two years or sooner depending on how bad the weather is that year. Screws don't just come out, hot and cold contract and expand creating gaps. If there were a problem with the craftsmanship, the only thing he had to do was call me and it would have been taking care of. MHIC require that I give my customers a 12 month warrantee on labor and materials. And I also give them an additional year on my craftsmanship. Also, this customer actually called me back to do another project, but I refused the job because I was booked working on other projects. In addition to these accusations, he's saying I took his materials and used them on another job. Really!!!! The last thing I need is someone else materials. Material cost are in the price of the job or they buy their own materials. If he did not like the final cost of the job, he could have simply find someone else. Three years later to complain is pathetic. when I'm just a phone call away!!!!"

When he pulled off the tape he caused wallpaper damage in the dining room. In the bathroom he got mud all over the wallpaper so I had to hire someone else to pull off the wallpaper and paint the walls. He made promise to come back and provide options of paint for the damage he caused but I never heard from him again. Very dissatisfied.
