"Paul arrived on time, quickly identified a workable solution to my electrical need. He noted equipment and wiring I already had installed and used that knowledge to give me an estimate that was much less than previous estimates. He is very knowledgeable, got the job done quickly and I would heartily recommend him for any electrical work."

"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Mike to rewire and replace the outlets in my home as well as install brand new lighting, outlets and switches in the finished attic. His workmanship is nothing short of exceptional. It's plain to see that Mike is a professional who cares about his work, and more importantly his clients. His pricing is also very competitive. No need to worry about mile-long contracts and being charged hourly on top of exorbitant fees etc. If you are looking for any kind of electrical work to be done in your home, I highly recommend you give Mike a call or text. I guarantee your experience will be as good as mine was!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When hiring an electrician in Wakefield, verify they have experience with local permitting and are familiar with the area’s older home layouts. Ensure they carry proper insurance and can provide references from recent projects in Wakefield. Request clear, written estimates and timelines, and confirm they offer a warranty on their work. A pro who communicates well and understands local electrical codes is essential for a smooth project.

Helpful?

Success in Wakefield electrical projects depends on using high-quality, weather-resistant materials suitable for New England’s climate, ensuring proper grounding, and upgrading outdated systems like aluminum or knob-and-tube wiring. Addressing moisture issues in basements and following Massachusetts electrical codes are essential. For older homes, a professional assessment to determine if a full home rewiring or an electrical panel upgrade is needed can greatly improve safety and reliability.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Wakefield are prioritizing smart home automation, such as app-controlled lighting, integrated USB outlets, and programmable thermostats. Energy-efficient upgrades like LED recessed fixtures, electrical panel upgrades, and EV charging stations are also in demand. Outdoor living spaces often feature weather-resistant lighting and outlets. Safety enhancements, including whole-home surge protection and GFCI outlets, are especially popular in kitchen and bathroom remodels.

Helpful?

In Wakefield, homes with plaster walls, finished basements, or limited attic access often present challenges for running new wiring or installing outlets. Older properties may have outdated fuse boxes or knob-and-tube wiring, which complicate electrical panel upgrades. Multi-story layouts and historic district guidelines can require extra planning. Frequent breaker trips or two-prong outlets are signs your home may need a more extensive electrical assessment.

Helpful?

Before beginning electrical work in Wakefield, confirm you have the correct permits and prepare detailed project plans, especially for electrical panel upgrades or home rewiring. Coordinate with utility providers if service changes are needed and request underground utility mark-outs for exterior work. Schedule inspections early and anticipate possible weather or supply delays. Careful planning ensures your project meets Wakefield’s requirements and stays on track.
