"Paul arrived on time, quickly identified a workable solution to my electrical need. He noted equipment and wiring I already had installed and used that knowledge to give me an estimate that was much less than previous estimates. He is very knowledgeable, got the job done quickly and I would heartily recommend him for any electrical work."

"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

"Matt and his team did an excellent job upgrading our electrical panel. He coordinated the work with National Grid, relocated the panel, labeled the circuits and tested all the work. I would highly recommend Dever Electric."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Combining electrical work with other home upgrades in Cambridge is often efficient and cost-effective. Coordinating projects like kitchen remodels, bathroom renovations, or HVAC updates minimizes disruption and streamlines permitting. For historic homes, working with contractors experienced in preservation ensures all changes meet local requirements. Planning these projects together can help you make the most of seasonal weather and reduce the overall project timeline.

Helpful?

Warning signs in Cambridge homes include frequent breaker trips, dimming or flickering lights, warm or discolored outlets, and visible or frayed wiring. If you discover unpermitted electrical work or lack documentation from past upgrades, it’s wise to have a professional inspection. Historic homes or properties converted to multi-family use often have outdated systems that may not meet current safety codes, making a thorough review especially important.

Helpful?

In Cambridge, you’ll find master electricians for comprehensive residential and commercial projects, journeyman electricians who handle installations under supervision, and specialists for historic homes familiar with unique wiring challenges. There are also contractors skilled in smart home integration, solar power systems, EV charging stations, and generator setups. Many local professionals have experience navigating Cambridge’s older housing stock and adapting to evolving city code requirements.

Helpful?

If your Cambridge home was built before 1950 or has original wiring, it may benefit from electrical upgrades, especially if you notice flickering lights or limited outlet availability. Homes in historic districts or multi-family buildings often require updates to meet modern safety standards. Accessible basements or attics make new installations easier, and homes with outdated panels or less than 100-amp service are strong candidates for improvement.

Helpful?

Before beginning electrical work in Cambridge, review your project scope and gather detailed plans, including any new equipment or upgrades. Confirm if your property is in a historic district or multi-family building, as these often have extra requirements. Apply for all necessary permits, coordinate with local utilities for service upgrades, and always check for underground lines before digging. Careful planning helps you avoid common delays and ensures compliance with city standards.
