"Called Paul to consult on a quick charger for an electric vehicle as well as to replace several outdoor outlets at my home. He went above and beyond to plot out the best and cheapest path from our electrical panel to the driveway in our renovated and added onto â 50â s ranch. The work he did I was quick and quality. We have plans to have him back for more in the spring. Highly recommend!"

"Sedar did a 10-star job! Two circuits in our circuit breaker were malfunctioning. As a result, our refrigerator and half of our kitchen had no power. This was not an easy fix. Sedar not only fixed the problem but he was able to diagnose the cause of the problem so that it would not happen again. Sedar arrived on time and did a superb job. I highly recommend Sedar and will definitely be using him for future projects. Thank you, Sedar!"

"I called Integrity Electrical after several outlets in the house failed, including the one for the refrigerator. Joe responded immediately, figured out the problem, and did a great job of explaining the work that needed to be done. Joe and Alex upgraded the house to 200 amp service, which involved replacing the electrical panel, upgrading outlets, and replacing a meter box that had water damage. I would not hesitate to call them again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Melrose, frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or outlets that feel warm can signal outdated wiring—common in older homes with knob and tube or aluminum wiring. Two-prong outlets, reliance on extension cords, or panels from discontinued manufacturers are red flags. If you notice buzzing switches or insufficient outlets in high-use areas, it’s wise to schedule a professional assessment and consider home rewiring or a panel upgrade.

Helpful?

Melrose homeowners are blending historic charm with modern convenience by installing smart switches, programmable thermostats, and built-in USB outlets. Under-cabinet LED lighting and recessed fixtures are popular, especially during kitchen or home office remodels. With more residents driving electric vehicles, EV charging station installations are on the rise, as are dedicated circuits for home offices and upgrades to outdoor lighting for entertaining and security.

Helpful?

In Melrose, many homes—especially classic Victorians and Colonials—have aging electrical systems. Start with a licensed electrician’s inspection to assess your panel and wiring for safety and capacity. Upgrading to a modern panel, adding GFCI outlets in kitchens, baths, and basements, and hardwiring smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential. Consider whole-house surge protection and updating outdoor lighting to handle New England’s unpredictable weather.

Helpful?

In Melrose, basements and kitchens often need attention due to high appliance use and older wiring. Bathrooms require updated GFCI protection and modern ventilation fans. Attics and upper floors in historic homes may have insufficient circuits, while garages and outdoor spaces often benefit from upgraded outlets or weatherproofing. Main panels, typically located in basements, are especially vulnerable to moisture and should be checked regularly for safety.

Helpful?

Annual electrical panel inspections are crucial in Melrose, where many homes are over 75 years old. Test GFCI outlets monthly and replace smoke detector batteries twice a year. Before winter, check outdoor lighting and wiring for weatherproofing, and trim any branches near service lines. If you use a backup generator, ensure it’s serviced before storm season. Surge protectors should be replaced after major storms or every few years.
