"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

Customers say: True professional

"There aren't enough stars for CH Electric! Chris Hinchey is a consummate professional. Educated, licensed and insured Chris was punctual, reliable, kind, beyond knowledgeable and affordable. Chris will be my go to pro for any and all electrical issues. His quality customer service and abilities as an electrician set him apart from the others. We could not be happier with the work he did for us. We are so happy to have found him. You'll be doing yourself a disservice if you do not hire him. Amazing experience!"
This is during the rough construction phase of the project if you look closely you can see out wiring
This is the best look at the new 200amp Service installed at the property. We were able to work with National Grid to insure the proper sized drop was installed free of cost, and that the point of attachment could be moved so not to interfere with the siding contractor

These are some of the exterior lights that were installed. You can also see the weather head on the new service which was upgraded from 100amps to 200amps

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Swampscott, persistent flickering lights—especially after coastal storms—can signal wiring problems. Outlets or switches that feel damp or show greenish corrosion are common near the ocean. If circuit breakers trip repeatedly or you notice a faint burning odor, act quickly. Homes with aluminum wiring or outdated panels are especially vulnerable, so early attention helps prevent extensive repairs in this coastal climate.

Helpful?

Completing electrical projects in Swampscott offers immediate safety improvements and better protection against storm-related outages. Over time, you’ll benefit from increased property value, lower energy use, and reduced risk of corrosion thanks to materials suited for coastal weather. Upgrades also make it easier to add features like EV chargers or solar panels, ensuring your home is ready for future technology and changing needs.

Helpful?

In Swampscott, letting salt spray accumulate on outdoor outlets or fixtures speeds up corrosion. Ignoring moisture around basement panels or using standard extension cords outside can also cause early wear. Overloading circuits with portable heaters during humid months is risky. Failing to test GFCI outlets regularly or allowing shrubs to block outdoor electrical boxes further reduces system longevity in this coastal environment.

Helpful?

Many Swampscott homeowners overlook the need for marine-grade wiring and weatherproof boxes, which are crucial due to salt air exposure. Skipping electrical permits or failing to update grounding in older homes can cause code violations. Mixing old and new wiring without panel upgrades, or installing GFCI outlets incorrectly, are frequent errors. Using standard outdoor wiring instead of coastal-rated materials is another common mistake.

Helpful?

Electrical upgrades in Swampscott may impact interconnected systems like HVAC, sump pumps, or security alarms. If your home features smart devices, solar panels, or backup generators, changes to your electrical panel or circuits can disrupt their operation. Before starting work, review how new wiring or panel changes could affect these systems, especially in homes with older infrastructure or multiple outdoor features.
