"Called Paul to consult on a quick charger for an electric vehicle as well as to replace several outdoor outlets at my home. He went above and beyond to plot out the best and cheapest path from our electrical panel to the driveway in our renovated and added onto â 50â s ranch. The work he did I was quick and quality. We have plans to have him back for more in the spring. Highly recommend!"

"Outstanding service. Less than one week from initial contact to completion of the job. Everything done in a professionally, neatly, and to code. No cutting of corners. Fair pricing and relatively quick (about 4.5 hours in total from beginning to end). They even went the extra mile and installed my 3rd party charger and tested it on the car. I'm very pleased and will be happy to call T&G again when I need electrical work done."

"New washer was causing circuit breakers to flip on my electrical panel. Mr. Handyman, who does my home repair and maintenance, referred me to McCurdy Electric emphasizing that they are the best in the business. Contacted McCurdy Electric and from that first phone call was in great hands. From Judy in the Office to Owner John who came out to meet and prepare estimate, professional and kind all the way. Logoed truck, always on time. Upgraded service to 100 AMP. Shebeeb and Brandon dug the trenches, ran the wires and quite honestly worked hard getting me back up with electricity before they left. McCurdy Electric even pulled the required permits and met with the City Inspector at my home. Just sat back with a book and let the professionals do their magic. Will not hesitate to contact them the next time I need electrical work done. Five Stars. --Charlene in West Peabody, MA"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Woburn, simple electrical work like installing or repairing an outlet typically takes 2-4 hours, while replacing a circuit breaker runs 4-6 hours. GFCI outlet installations usually take 1-3 hours each. Larger projects, such as a panel upgrade, may require 1-2 days plus extra time for permit approval. Whole house rewiring can take 3-7 days, with possible delays during winter.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Woburn should schedule an electrical panel inspection, especially if the house predates 1990. Installing GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and garages is required by code. Upgrading basement circuits, weatherproofing outdoor outlets for freeze-thaw cycles, hardwiring smoke detectors, and adding dedicated kitchen circuits are smart upgrades. Whole house surge protection and preparing for EV charging are also increasingly valuable in Woburn homes.

Helpful?

In Woburn, plugging space heaters and portable AC units into the same outlets during seasonal temperature swings can overload circuits and stress your electrical panel. Ignoring regular GFCI outlet tests in damp basements, letting snow or ice accumulate around outdoor outlets, and relying on extension cords for long-term use all increase risk. Attempting DIY electrical repairs without permits can also cause hidden code violations and future hazards.

Helpful?

In Woburn, flickering lights during winter heating or summer cooling spikes often signal an overloaded service panel. A burning odor near outlets or panels, especially in older homes, is a serious warning. Frequent GFCI tripping in damp basements, warm or discolored outlets, repeated breaker trips, and buzzing sounds—especially after storms—are all signs that a minor electrical issue could escalate into a major repair.

Helpful?

Woburn homes built before 1950 often contain outdated knob-and-tube wiring, which complicates rewiring projects. Colonial and Cape Cod layouts, common in Woburn, have narrow wall cavities that make running new wires more difficult. Finished basements can conceal access points, while homes converted to multi-family use may lack sufficient electrical service. Proximity to industrial zones can also introduce electromagnetic interference.
