"I have an electrical dryer that was not functioning correctly. The repair tech told me something was wrong with the electricity. So I called Joe Schmo. It was a weird issue that was fairly difficult to diagnose as the initial diagnostics all looked good, but it would have an issue as the dryer tried to pull load. The electrician went above and beyond to address and fix the problem, taking no charge."

"JR was very courteous and described every detail of the Whole House Safety Maintenance electric program. I purchased a 25yr old home and was unsure of the safety of several remodeled areas. JR checked every detail on a long lilst, tested all wall outlet and switch, GFCI outlets, electric panel, plus many more. I learned a lot. Definitely would recommend JR and Ashpaugh electric company"

"Aaron's was the first to answer my request and did so quickly! They called and answered my questions and gave me their prices over the phone so I could make my decision to use them. The owner arrived, diagnosed the problem very quickly and fixed it promptly. He was also very nice and easy to work with. I will definitely use Aaron's again for any electrical issues we have in the future!"

"Our electrician, Eduardo, was very knowledgeable and professional. The primary project required installation of a new electrical panel. He also installed a new foyer light. We especially appreciate that Eduardo discovered a potentially serious problem relating to the meter on the exterior of our home, and he was proactive in making certain that the power company addressed the problem immediately. We would definitely hire Mr. Sparky and Eduardo again!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can move an electric meter outside if you currently have one inside your home. This is considered a larger move, so be prepared to pay on the upper end of $600 to $1,200. When hiring a professional electrician to move your electric meter, be sure to specify its current location and desired location, including pictures if possible.

While circuit breakers are designed to be reset after tripping, there isn't a strict countdown to when they will fail. The primary danger lies in a breaker tripping multiple times in a short period without allowing the components to cool down. Theoretically, a standard breaker might handle around 50 trips caused by simple overloading. However, this number can be much lower in practice. For instance, a high-current fault could damage a breaker to the point that it needs replacement after only two resets. Repeatedly resetting a breaker that trips frequently exacerbates the underlying problem by causing the electrical components, wires, and the breaker itself to overheat. This can lead to permanent damage, cause the breaker to trip unnecessarily in the future, and increase the risk of an electrical fire. If a breaker trips every few minutes, you should leave it in the 'off' position and call a qualified electrician for an inspection.

Yes, an AFCI (arc fault circuit interrupter) outlet also has line and load terminals, although it uses different technology than a GFCI and offers a different kind of protection. AFCIs monitor for internal arc faults, a type of wiring problem that can start an electrical fire.

Yes, if something sparks when you plug it in or turn it on, it's important to unplug it immediately. A spark from an electrical appliance or device could indicate a short circuit, damaged wiring, or other electrical problems that could cause electrical fires or electrical shock. By unplugging the appliance, you can reduce the risk of electrical hazards and prevent damage to the device itself. It's important to avoid using the appliance until it has been inspected and repaired by a licensed professional to ensure that it’s safe to use.

You shouldn’t hook up a solar panel directly to a battery. That can damage the solar battery and your appliances over time. Instead, install a charge controller between your solar panel and solar battery. Charge controllers regulate voltage, prevent overcharging, and minimize the amount of electrical current to protect your battery from voltage spikes.
