"Aaron's Electric did a great job on this project! They were competitively priced, arrived on time, were thorough and careful in their work, and cleaned up each day on site. Jim also added input and suggestions during the quote process and on the job, making the final results that much better. I would highly recommend Aaron's Electric for any electrical projects!"

"The wind caused a branch to fall off a tree and it pulled the electric meter off the outside of the house leaving the power lines on the ground. I called Bucks Electric and when I told him about the power lines on the ground he rearranged his schedule to come out the next morning./ The job turned out to be more involved than originally thought because the previous owners didn't have the electric service installed correctly. He spent about 11 hours there getting everything put back that way it should be. I will call him the next time I need electric work done"

"Certified Electric LLC is a must for any electrical needs in your home! As soon as I reached out, Brian called and gave us a quote and scheduled a time to install the ceiling fans. Billy came over within a couple days and did a wonderful job! So personable and knowledgeable! We now have a list of things for them to do including adding a new electrical line for our stove! They also support the military and law enforcement! Reasonably priced too, total win! Highly Recommend!"

"I hired them to remove an old light fixture, install a ceiling fan rated box in the ceiling, assemble the ceiling fan/light fixture, and install it. The process was quick, efficient, and flawless. Brian and Billy do fantastic work. While the job was quoted as time and materials, the actual fee came in exactly where they estimated. They did a great job of cleaning up any mess as well. I just found my new electricians. I will most definitely hire them again for any electrical work in home."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Typically, when a 3-way switch only works when one switch is on, this is one of the most telltale indicators that the switch has gone bad (although this could also be the result of faulty or loose wiring). To diagnose the issue, toggle each switch until the light comes on. Once it’s on, toggle each switch separately again; the switch that doesn’t turn the light off is the bad switch.

A light switch can stop working for several reasons. Typical causes include a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker, both of which shut off power to the switch. Worn-out or faulty internal switch components can also prevent it from functioning properly. Loose or disconnected wiring within the switch or electrical box is another frequent issue. Additionally, switches may fail due to age, excessive use, or physical damage. In some cases, problems with the light fixture or bulb itself might be mistakenly attributed to the switch.

Provided you leave the switch in the off position, your broken bulb shouldn’t be drawing any power. However, there’s always the risk that the switch is turned on by accident, potentially causing electrical damage or even a fire. Plus, broken glass in the home is never ideal. For safety, it’s a good idea to remove broken bulbs as soon as possible. If you’re in doubt, a local lighting professional can help you remove the bulb safely and quickly.

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

You can test an electric fence with a multimeter, but you’ll need to set the multimeter to the correct voltage measurement—such as alternative current (AC) or direct current (DC) and range—depending on your fence. You can find the voltage type and range in the fence’s user manual.
