"We purchased an older home and after living in it for a couple of months discovered a few issues in the attic and on the outside of the house that needed to be addressed. We also wanted to add additional interior lighting in three bedrooms and replace light fixtures on the outside of the home. Jeremy, from Grandview Construction, professionally addressed all our concerns regarding the necessary repairs to the house. He gave us an honest opinion on what needed to be handled and what steps needed to be taken to correct the issues. Because of Jeremyâ s home construction knowledge and carpentry skills, we were able to address the issues with the house along with making the improvements we were looking for at the same time. After working with Grandview Construction, on our house, I can say with full confidence that I would recommend their services. Grandview showed honesty, integrity, and professionalism in their work. Plus, the improvements they completed to our house turned out fantastic."

"After living in our house for over 8 years with clothes spread out in 3 different places, we decided to convert an underused bedroom into a closet.  My wife has an extensive work wardrobe and so bouncing between 3 locations looking for something got very tiresome and wished for a long time that she could have everything in one place for easy access.  We contacted Closet Organizing Systems for an estimate on a Friday and Rich was able to come out the next day.  He talked with us about what we wanted.  We were looking for something functional, not fancy.  He helped educate us on the way to best utilize the new space of the bedroom we'd be converting and how to optimize the space in a walk-in in the master bedroom.  He also gave us tips on painting the new space.  His almost 30 years of experience was very evident and appreciated.
We couldn't be happier with the results.  Installation went very smoothly.  The installers were on time, efficient, and flexible.  We had an electrician in at the same time installing a new light switch in the new space so they were able to work around each other without any problem.  They did a great job of cleaning up too.  My wife now has all her clothes for work in one convenient place and the master walk-in is much more organized, allowing more space to hang clothes that previously were folded up and crammed onto shelves, getting wrinkled and lost in the shuffle.   I would highly recommend COS to anyone.

"Owner, Memo, contacted us within an hour of inquiry. We had a bid almost immediately. We accepted the bid and set the install date within hours of initial contact. We had to replace our closet floor due to a neighbors leak, in our high rise building. After that, Memo sent me some suggestions for what type of products to order at Menards, for the job. I placed the order and he picked it up on day of install. He and another guy arrived on time and immediately went to work. They cleaned up after they were done, and were out the door within a couple hours. Memo answers all of my questions within minutes when I emailed him. He was a pleasure to work with and professional. Would absolutely recommend hiring them!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.
