"When temperatures dropped to -50 with wind chill, the pipes to our basement bathroom sink froze. And as soon as everything began to thaw, (on Friday night) we found that we had a ruptured hot water pipe. Water was shooting out of the wall all over the bathroom. When it became clear that our usual plumber wasn't going to show up on Saturday, I frantically called half-a-dozen plumbers from Angie's List. Only Charlie got back to me and agreed to show up after his next job. On a day that he was clearly being overwhelmed with calls from all over the city, Charlie kept his word and showed up with his partner Dimitri. They quickly figured out there were no other leaks and repaired the pipe. On top of it, Charlie spotted two other unrelated plumbing issues in our HVAC room. They were minor now but could have turned into bigger problems down the road. His thoroughness and attention to detail allowed him to spot these hidden problems and save us headaches down the road. We had our water working in under an hour (on a Saturday evening!) and he charged a very fair price given the demands upon his time. He left our house at 5pm, his phone blowing up from other customers. I asked if he was going to have an end to the day soon, but he said he still had hours to go...he had promised other worried homeowners that he would help them today. THAT's the kind of dedication I want from my plumber. Call Charlie with confidence."

"The plumber that came out, Johnny, was very professional and we felt comfortable with him in our home, during this pandemic. He did the work we needed and explained everything he was doing to us. We are very happy with the work he did and would definitely call Reliance again for all of our plumbing needs."

"Daniel was very prompt-he was a little early. He did a very thorough job explaining what needed to be done. He was very polite, friendly, and informative. The price was very reasonable. The clogged drain in the bathroom sink was cleared very quickly and he found a simple solution to an additional problem with water pressure in the kitchen faucet. I would call them again and highly recommend J&D Plumbing."

"Mattco has been performing repairs and regular plumbing maintenance at my 116 year old Chicago 2-flat for many years. Over time with experience I have gained trust in Mattco Plumbing to get me out of big jams with the plumbing in this old building. Just recently Matt repaired the 2nd floor toilet drain line in the ceiling above my 1st floor bathroom in a very tight spot. I have had other plumbers walk away from the repair or just wanting to do the band aide repair. Matt was able to replace the entire drain line above the ceiling. I watched him do the repair. It wasn't easy, but he got it done. I have peace of mind because I know the repair will last for ever. I'm in my 50th year working and owning an HVAC company. I know a good technician when I see one. I trust in Mattco Plumbing."

"I hired Aqua Smart Plumbing because I had no cold water to my second floor apartment. The plumber diagnosed the problem, which was in an area I thought could not have been the cause. He was right, and I was wrong. He replaced the needed pip and valve very efficiently. He also fixed the toilet on the second floor, which had a malfunctioning water valve. The final thing we worked on was replacing a defective cartridge in the shower. I was very pleased with the work. I would hire them again if I needed a plumber."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Upgrading your plumbing directly enhances your daily comfort and protects your property. Installing proper pipe insulation and frost-free spigots prevents frozen pipes during harsh Glencoe winters. Replacing older galvanized pipes restores strong water pressure and eliminates discolored water. Upgrading sump pumps and interior drain systems prevents basement flooding. Furthermore, replacing outdated lead service lines ensures safe drinking water, while permitted modernizations support your home's long-term resale value.

Helpful?

Before requesting plumbing services, document your water meter location and account number. Gather any existing permit records for past work to avoid inspection complications. Note your home’s age and pipe materials, particularly checking for lead service lines common in older IL homes. Record the location of your main shutoff valve, history of frozen pipes, and details about your sewer lateral, as you are responsible for the line connecting to the public main.

Helpful?

Always secure and retain your final inspection certificate to confirm code compliance after finishing a plumbing project. Update your municipal records if you replaced a lead service line, and flush your system thoroughly. Test new sump pumps before the heavy spring rains arrive in Glencoe. Finally, verify that all outdoor spigots are winterized and keep all permit documentation in your files to ensure a smooth process during any future real estate transactions.

Helpful?

Always hire a licensed professional who carries proper general liability and workers' compensation insurance. Verify that the contractor will secure all required local permits before starting any plumbing work. Choose experts experienced with the older housing stock found throughout IL, specifically those skilled in replacing galvanized pipes and lead service lines. Ensure they understand local soil conditions and have proven experience handling sewer lateral inspections and basement drainage systems.

Helpful?

You must redo previous plumbing work if you notice rust-colored water, dropping water pressure, or visible corrosion on older galvanized pipes. Recurring sewage backups, slow drains, or yard sinkholes indicate a failing sewer lateral. Look for water stains or seeping joints from past winter freezes in Glencoe. Additionally, unpermitted DIY connections or flagged items during a home inspection signal that the system fails to meet current building codes and requires immediate replacement.
