"Another outstanding job by Olsen. We requested and received a proposal last fall for work to be done. Proposal was easy to understand, covered all work wanted and provided on very timely basis. Early spring they delivered brick samples for our approval and began work a few days later. Work was preformed very quickly, very professionally and of the best quality. They thoroughly cleaned up each day and after completion. We strongly recommend Olsen to everyone needing masonry work. Another satisfied customer, again."

Customers say: Quick response

"The four support pillars on our porch were wood. They constantly needed painting. Gilberto Masonry redid them in stone. The result was stunning, we are very happy with how they look. While many home porches have the supports bricked. Stone adds a very unique look. I highly Recommend Gilberto Masonry."

"My experience with 83 Masonry was EXCELLENT! We hired them to tuck-point and partially rebuild our two chimneys. They started the project on time and showed up everyday ahead of time. We have new roof and AC, so before they started any work, they have protected the roof and build protection canopy over the AC to make sure nothing would get damaged. Very professional, knowledgeable, punctual and safe. Not only were the chimneys fixed, they improved the look of the house. We are EXTREMELY happy with the craftsmanship and we would recommend them for any type of masonry work."

"

Overall, they were great.  We did have to have them back not once, but twice again.  The first time was due to the fact that we found a new crack after we closed up the basement again including drywall, paint and carpeting.  The second time was due to the fact the one of their cracks leaked.  We think there is movement in the wall so we do not blame Atlas for this.  It's the house.

We would have them back again.

"The work went extremely well. The concrete is now properly raised and sloped for drainage. The gap between the slab and my front stairs is also sealed. It looks great. I highly recommend Perma-Seal."

Customers say: True professional

"We are totally satisfied with the professionalism, skill, work ethic and overall attention to detail provided by Hector Martinez and his extremely capable crew. This is a contractor you can trust. They completed the job timely once they had started. Prices are fair. Our emphasis was on the quality of the materials and workmanship rather than the cheapest contractor we could find, as value is important to us. We feel this concrete will endure for many years to come. We plan to hire Hector again for additional masonry projects."

"Very professional from start to finish. We have an older home that has partial cinder block foundation. They were able to seal the problem areas and with recent heavy rainfalls, all dry! They sent me a video prior to the job to show us exactly how the process worked. Very happy and satisfied would definitely recommend Real Seal!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"J D Mathein was an absolute delight to work with. He was, and has been, responsive to every question and came up with a design that reflected our needs and wishes. The results are spectacular and have enhanced the look and value of our home. The crew of gardeners who prepared and installed the plantings and hardscape were also top notch. We were consulted for accuracy of placement before anything went into the ground. We installed about 80 new trees, shrubs and perennial plants as well as paving stones. J D gave us very specific care instructions and followed up with answers to questions immediately. We will continue to use Green City Gardens for any additions we make to the gardens going forward. Couldn’t be happier."

"The foundation of our house is 100+ years old and made of large stone blocks.  As such, it has developed some cracks to the point that with heavy rains, we were getting consistent seepage into our basement.  With this type of a foundation, only external waterproofing is an option.  ULB-Dry came an gave a quote that while a substantial amount of money, was a good value given the amount of work involved.  In particular, the excavation was difficult as it is in a gangway between our house and the neighbors, preventing any mechanical digging.  The entire excavation was done manually, with the dirt and sediment carried out by hand to a trailer parked in the street.  The ground was not easy to dig, as it was all clay soil.  Stoyan and the ULB-Dry team put in a LOT of work to get the foundation dug out (60 liner feet and 2-3 feet deep and wide).  This work alone was worth the money.  They then did all the waterproofing work (patching cracks, sealing, membrane, drain tile, etc.).  They were also able to accommodate a last-minute request to install foam core insulation.  The drain tile was routed to an existing sump pump.  However, it was discovered that the pit was not deep enough to accommodate the pitch of the pipe.  Stoyan and team dug out the pit to the required depth and made all the connections - a lot of additional and unexpected work.  After everything was completed, they manually carried back all the dirt and soil to backfill the excavated area.
We have now had the new drain tile and waterproofing in place for 2 months, and have had some fair amounts of rain during this time.  Most recently, 2-3 inches of rain fell overnight and  flooded the alley behind our garage.  However, we have not had any water or seepage in the basement.  Had ULB-Dry not done the waterproofing, this would not have been the case.  All the work and cost was worth it for the peace of mind we now have.

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Real stone is exactly what it sounds like: It’s real stone sourced from the earth without additives. It is durable and unique, but it’s difficult to work with because of its weight, challenge in sourcing, and high cost. Stone veneer mimics the look of real stone but is actually engineered with a mixture of Portland cement, natural minerals, and a colorant. While it’s more affordable and easier to work with, it’s less durable and may appear manufactured to the trained eye.

They offer durability, aesthetic appeal, and resistance to weathering compared to concrete or asphalt.

Yes, you can limewash surfaces other than brick. Plaster, stone, stucco, and concrete can all also be limewashed. Any porous surface that will absorb the wash is a good candidate for limewash, although it won’t help much with waterproofing. If you choose to limewash over paint, you’ll need to prep before applying it to avoid a powdery, chalky finish. Shiny surfaces like metal or glass can’t absorb limewash, so it’s not suited for these.

Chimney mortar typically lasts 20 to 30 years, depending on its quality, local weather conditions, and maintenance. Over time, exposure to moisture, freezing, and thawing cycles can cause mortar to deteriorate, leading to cracks and gaps. Regular inspections and timely repairs, such as repointing or tuckpointing, can extend the lifespan of chimney mortar by ensuring the structure's integrity.

Most of the time, you don’t need to seal brickwork and can save that money for another area of home improvement. But if your brick is cracking or you live in an area with a lot of excess moisture (either in terms of rain or freezes), sealing can extend the lifetime of your home. But, make sure you use a breathable sealant, like siloxane, to allow the moisture to evaporate on its own.
